Actually, eusocial insect colonies are composed mostly sterile females, not asexual.
Do changelings even have genders? They appear patterned after social insects, and social insects are usually asexual except for the breeding queens and drones. There may be no such thing as a “male” or “female” changeling other than Queen Chrysalis and (presumably) her male consorts.
I guess that’s true, but it’s a little unprofessional.
Well if you use the default blinding skin on derpi you wouldn’t notice since the background is white - just like in most art programs.
Do we have any evidence that a female changeling can disguise itself as a male and vice versa? I don’t know if we do. I headcannon it as a glamour; they don’t truly transform but put a sensory illusion that they look and feel like whoever they’re disguised as.
For a creature that can change its sex on a whim, “gender identity” would be a meaningless concept.
It is what it is when it is.
There shouldn’t be any problem using a paint fill to fill in that empty space. Shouldn’t the artist have noticed this, anyway?

Ah well yeah, that’s what I meant too in my initial comment. We should wait and see if he identifies himself as a he or not. Until then, I guess he’s a he.
Oh, I’m not going to argue about the changeling biological gender, I was referring to its gender identity; how it views itself. Now it’s entirely possible that Spike just assumed, but seeing as all the data we have at this point is “Spike referred to him as a he”, I’m just going to assume it is a male until further evidence presents itself.

Except with changelings there are a lot of possible other scenarios. They can be completely genderless, herm, gendered with the option to change it whenever they wish, gendered when they reach a certain age, etc. Or if they’re like bees/ants/whatever, then drones are all infertile females. I guess nobody knows.

If you’re a friend with a trans person, you call them by their chosen gender, with the possible exception if you’re talking about something appropriately medical (if a M->F person gets prostate cancer, using a male pronoun while describing the condition may be appropriate).

But since they can look like anything they want I guess we can be like tumblr and ask what it wants to be called.
