Although I guess Twilight kinda offloaded Sunset’s reformation to the rest of the mane6 in the human world.
Completely unrelated comment. When Twilight became an alicorn, Rarity didn’t think that was possible. When Cadence’s baby turned out an alicorn, Rarity didn’t think that was possible. Where did she think alicorns came from?
Oh yeah, I was very angry when I found about them cutting her scenes talking about Equestria, as well as cutting the part of the song she was supposed to have. I really don’t like the idea of EQG being centered around Twilight, just like the show, and a far inferior Twilight at that.
Alright. This doesn’t change my opinion, but I think I can understand yours a little.
It’s funny that people say she’s a Sunset rip-off when they don’t share anything outside of being a unicorn and a redeemed antagonist. Honestly, Sunset always came closer to being a bit of a rip-off of Luna. Not a bad rip-off, she’s superb in her own way, but those two share far more then Starlight and Sunset ever have.
As for why I love her, I kinda made two blogs about that a while back. {Also note, I changed Starlight to my first favorite character shortly after the second blog was made.

love-starlight-glimmerI will have to carry on since those were made before season six. As for during, I actually found her episodes some of the best of the show since we actually had Starlight deal with her trauma and actually rebuilding herself since Twilight basically destroyed her entire world view… utterly. I mean, Starlight herself doesn’t know what to do with herself since all she knew beforehand was now wrong or just plain gone. So she latched on to the idea of being Starlight student as her purpose.
I would say this and how Starlight has to readjust herself to talking and befriending others is both heartwarming and hilarious to watch and does bring a unique spin on the show. It was also awesome to see Starlight basically having to work up her courage to actually lead others as she didn’t have the confidence to do so after her own past. It was an interesting contrast to other previous redeemed antagonists and had a solid framework. It’s also nice to see her retain some of her previous conniving personality and the need to conform others since she doesn’t really like or know how to deal with contrasting wants and actions.
I will honestly put Starlight as my favorite and her episodes as some of my favorite episodes to watch.
Well, we all know Sci-Twi is here for the long-haul due to what happened in LoE. At least Sunset steals the show whenever she gets screen time, so that’s something I guess.
As for Starlight, I think she’s hated by Shimmer fans so vehemently is that aside from her powers and abilities… she really doesn’t have anything to make her unique (you know hopes, dreams, likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc.). Thus it makes it seem like she’s nothing more than a half-assed Sunset Shimmer. At least that’s what I see.
I absolutely adore Sunset, I won’t lie. That is never changing. But I’m actually curious to know what Starlight’s fans see in her, because I certainly don’t see anything.

In all honesty, I think it was a bit that Sci-Twi wasn’t all that good in the first place. I think she would have been better off as an antagonist instead of trying to garner sympathy when she kept making rather….. inane decisions and didn’t seem all that intelligent with how she went about it.
As for my love for Shimmer, while yes her stagnation as a character in order to promote Sci-Twi is a factor, I think it was, well, a lot of Shimmer fans were a bit… meanspirited when I tried to defend Starlight. I kinda quit this site for a bit and yeah…
Sunset’s still a great character and one of my favorites however. That won’t change. Still, I just wish Sci-Twi left… and let Sunset have the more interesting inner daemon subplot that she was given (so much potential) and allow her to have those scenes they cut of her missing Equestria.
I didn’t like that they started pushing her aside for Sci-Twi as well, but that doesn’t do any sort of damage to my love for Sunset.
Sci-Twi was ok in FG, then they ruined her in LOE.
To me you need to match a character’s design with their personality, and giving her a ponytail just fucked it up.
MASAKA…!!!
BAKA-NA…!!
Rarity: “I DIDN’T THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE!”
Starlight becomes an alicorn.
Rarity: “I DIDN’T THINK THAT WAS POSSIBLE!”
Agreed
Alright.
Edited because: Stopping as requested.
Lets just agree to disagree. We both have very different opinions on this subject.
Eh, I used to be Sunset’s biggest fans ever since her first appearance. Sort of fell out of it when the movies started pushing her aside for SciTwi {I will never call her Twilight. I honestly don’t like her} and they’ve sort of sped through her character’s potential to an extent.
Well actually no, the backstory does make sense when you actually do think about it. It honestly does stem from one problem: Starlight didn’t have a mature, moral compass growing up such as a parent or guardian. While this hasn’t been confirmed, given the fact that Starlight never mentioning any other then Sunburst as someone she could call a friend or moral compass growing up or the fact that a real parent would have helped her out of this mindset, it’s easy to see how this ideology would manifest itself. So Broly doesn’t work for her at all as a comparison.
As for ‘can it be done’, yes it can and we have seen progress. I mean, they helped characters like Luna and Discord who were honestly much worse then Starlight in both ideologies, temperment, and how they went about things. As the point above stands, Twilight became that moral and mature compass. Is she perfect? No and while there are others such as Celestia who could do better, I think Twilight is growing because of this.
Out of all those episodes, she only ever brings up that point in No Second Prances but honestly does learn that point since her actions didn’t have good consequences. As well, it was also done out of a worry that Trixie would be a bad influence, since Starlight hadn’t really made a friend in years and wouldn’t really know how to act around more other people.
I just have to say that I think Starlight’s my fav thus far of the show and her character has been going great and that Twilight isn’t so ‘Celestia’ crazy anymore {as that was something The Crystal Empire made a point of doing, which is why it’s my second favorite opene.}
I once thought that about the Cutie-Remark, but when I looked back on it, I found a lot of inconsistencies. We had a villain who saw a valid problem with society but went to a morally evil extreme to try and fix it. A problem Twilight had no real answer for. But then the backstory came and it was so stupid and it did not make any sense compared to the Starlight we had seen up until then. She is basically the Broly of MLP: cool to watch, but makes no sense when you actually think about the backstory. If Twilight actually wanted to help her, Starlight would already be in a mental hospital for some serious help. Instead she saw “teaching” Starlight friendship (which in reality can’t be done) as a way to earn even more brownie points with Celestia, and refused to get Starlight the help she needs.
And The Crystalling, No Second Prances, Every Little Thing She Does, pretty much every Starlight episode adds further proof to Twilight’s mindset. She’s not doing it to help Starlight, she’s just trying to make Celestia proud of her by teaching friendship. And Starlight has become a train wreck of a character as a result.
But that’s my opinion, and I’m not going to shove it down your throat.

>Then why didn’t she do it with Trixie?
I’d always thought this was more because there’s a different dynamic between Trixie-Twi and Starlight-Twi. At the end of Boast Busters, Trixie trotted off into the horizon after apologizing. She seemed like she wanted to find her own way, outside of Twi’s gudance.
On the other hand, at the climax of The Cutie Re-Mark, Starlight was in an emotionally unstable and Twi had to step in or she would’ve lost it. Twilight becoming her friend was the first step toward stabilizing her so things wouldn’t go south fast. And after, when Twi was talking with the rest of the mane 6, they figured because Starlight was so powerful, they couldn’t just let her go off and do her own thing. Trixie on her own would at worst probably just annoy people and play some irritating pranks. Starlight could’ve destroyed all of Equestria.
PREACH!!!!!!
I’m one of the hugest Sunset fans there is. Sunset is always before Glimmer, in my eyes.
Then why didn’t she do it with Trixie? Trixie did the exact same thing Starlight did on a much smaller scale (albeit under the influence of an outside source). If we follow the logic you’re going with, why isn’t Twilight trying to make peace and be friends with Trixie? Because she can’t use her as a way to make Celestia proud, that’s why. She sees taking Starlight as her pupil as a way to make Celestia proud of her.
Face it, to Twilight, Celestia’s pride in her is the entire reason she gets up in the morning. It’s actually borderline scary if you think about it.

Which is something the show probably won’t ever address. It’s one of Twilight’s major flaws, idolizing Celestia. In-universe it might make some sense, but Celestia has been nothing but near worthless on-screen with maybe two good moments she had.
Hopefully that apparent season 7 episode will redeem Celestia in my eyes.
Actually no, Twilight didn’t reward Starlight. If anything, Starlight was kept on a leash. Applejack herself calls into doubt just letting her go and they do assess her level. Twilight didn’t do this just to get on Celestia’s good side. She did it because Starlight needed someone to guide her, especially after Twilight destroyed her with showing Starlight her actions in the destroyed future. While a part of Twilight still does want to impress Celestia, that wasn’t the reason she lent out a hoof to Starlight.
The entire reformation of Starlight Glimmer is my rebuttal. Twilight was willing to reward a villain by becoming her best friend for absolutely no reason that would benefit her in the long run other than Celestia would be extremely proud of her (which I highly doubt since this behavior is actually starting to get on Celestia’s nerves if No Second Prances has anything to say on the matter).
Bringing Sunset back would actually be a way to earn some major brownie points with Celestia.
Twilight’s entire motto in life is:
If Celestia would want me to do it, then I’ll do it. No questions asked.
Twilight has an EXTREMELY unhealthy worship of Celestia. :/

Much like Equestria Girls in general rite?
On a more serious note it was in Twilight’s intention. Which unfortunately was done away in favor of her counterpart. In regards to the first movie why would Twilight offer her to go home? Sunset had to make amends in the first movie. As for why not in Rainbow Rocks is a different story.
I don’t.
