When Nightmare Moon first came out, her mane was just a cloud of blue smoke.
I caught that, too! The possibilities!
There is the possibility that Celestia is just saying that the Dream!Daybreaker is the first and last instance of Daybreaker that she will allow to exist.
It’s the offical art used by Enterplay, it wasn’t pinned to an artist as far as I know.
She technically hasn’t been, as she only existed in a dream.
But yeah, neither version actually has an origin story, so saying they come from different places is speculative at best.

The animators would only have to do with how much could be put in at a given point, because it’s hard to fit as much detail in when they are far away as when they are close up.

And the Nightmare Forces isn’t magic. They’re actually a single demonic non-corporeal entity.
Daybreaker is fuelled by celestia’s dark emotions.
Nightmare star is possessed by the “nightmare forces” magic (a magic that turns others fear into the possessed’s strength).

Can’t disagree with that.
But still it just seems like a lazy reuse of the term “nigtmare”.
Before Daybreaker I always like the more common fan name of evil Tia “Solar Flare” as it made more sense to me.
Even if the nightmare forces was the reason behind her, it still seemed odd, even evil Rarity having it was odd to me, but that’s the comics.

To me it seems like it was only used because “Well her sister was Nightmare when evil so this one is too”, and nothing more.
