I read the movie prequel comics and I didn’t hear any mention of magic grenades.
The only thing I know for certain, be it some kind of spell, or magical object is both Tempest and Storm King use them.
From the comics and movie he collects magic artifacts, and refers to himself as ‘magical’.

Well, she DOES have a fit body, I’m not contesting that… ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
She’s also changed the 2 princess’s CMs.
But Tempest captured the princesses with the “crystal grenades” from the Stormking. Her biggest strength is her uncontrolled magic of hers and a very fit body. Throwing that big fish guy and doing the insane jumps.
I just have to wonder how strong Tempest could have been with a repaired horn.
Hmm… Well Tempest took out three alicorn princesses and successfully captured the forth, all with a broken horn, whereas Glim Glam only just kept beating Twilight with the help of Time Travel shenanigans and a complete horn.
It’s probably a non-starter on who’s technically stronger.
