I think I remember hearing somewhere that Hasbro intends to directly compete against Disney’s princess line.

Hasbro told Lauren Faust that people think queens are evil and princesses are good. That excuse never made sense to me given how previous MLP gens had multiple queen characters.
 
My guess? They chose Princess because it sells well in other toylines (e.g. the Disney Princess toyline) so they figured it would help Celestia’s toys sell well too.

A special, movie, or carrying some of these ideas over to G5 sounds good to me.

I’m still curious to this day what’s so wrong with being titled a queen and why being titled a princess makes you sound better…

These alternate versions of the characters, scrapped designs and names, and etc. would make a great story for the movie or a special.  
Because the actual versions of characters are in the show, and the scrapped ones… well, where the cancelled stuff belongs and it’s very sad. So, the story of them reuniting with each other would be a good idea for it to be not as sad as it is in the reality.  
By the way, this name ‘Twinkle’ suits Twilight so well it feels like a part of the actual story. Also, this version is based on the toy from G3. So it’s a good thing. Don’t know if anyone would want to make a drawing of her in G3’s style but it’s a good character with fitting colors and she deserves that. Or this Twilight meeting Twinkle from the previous gen. I didn’t see anything like this in the drawings here or anywhere else… A good dream I would say. It makes me think that Twilight Twinkle and Twilight we have in the show are related somehow, ‘it’s written in the stars’.  
Oh, these early sketches and anything like this… this is so pretty and wonderful. Always great to see. A very big thanks to the uploader.
