Not a spelling error, but there is a difference in usage between these two.
 
“Bukan” is equivalent to “not”.  
Eg: Dia bukan abang saya.  
He is not my brother.
 
“Tidak” would be equivalent to the usual “no”.  
Eg 1: Saya tidak lapar.  
I am not hungry.
 
Eg 2: Anda tidak boleh membuang sampah di merata-rata tempat.  
You are not allowed to litter anywhere.
 
Eg 3: Dia tidak mempunyai epal.  
He doesn’t have an apple.
 
Eg 4: “Adakah kamu pernah ke London?”  
“Tidak.”  
“Have you been to London?”  
“No.”
