Duck - Quacks like a duck, takes bait like a fish

@BlackPuma
Oh I’m definitely sticking with the show. I just hope it doesn’t degrade in quality and big changes test things. What if it screws with the magic of the show? But might as well stick around and see.

Duck - Quacks like a duck, takes bait like a fish

@BlackPuma
The reason people have a problem with it is because it either changes the dynamic of the show or it changes the verisimilitude by keeping the dynamic the same but now she’s a “princess” that’s living as a librarian in a rural town without any guards. It might force one of these two outcomes since they seem pretty much mutually exclusive- damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

I think there’s wiggle room and that the writers can find a way to make it work though. I think this entire drama could’ve been cushioned in the beginning and we would’ve had less teenagers screaming about ‘hasdrones’ and coming up with conspiracy theories about a damn toy company if the people that were fine with the alicorn ascension would’ve taken the time to try and understand and discuss it rather than just laughing it off as people upset about change or violation of their headcanon.

I’m not accusing you of this, I just think that’s basically how this whole drama thing went down and could’ve been avoided if people were just a bit more understanding of the concerns of their fellow fans.

Twilight’s face in this is weapons-grade diabeetus fuel. Thank you, OP, for reminding me how much I like both Twilight and the show in general.

I hope that wasn’t the opposite of your intentions or anything, that would be just terrible.

… So you claim your conclusion is logical, I point out it isn’t, you then claim it is scientific, I point out it isn’t, now you claim is neither and it’s all speculation, thus making it all right.

I can work with that last one.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Background Pony
Dude… this isn’t science… this is speculation of FICTION, in a FICTIONAL world where anything goes more or less, because MAGIC.

If I find an explanation I like, I can roll with that until the canon says otherwise.
Background Pony #75E3
@JJMDude
But that’s not how science works. You cannot work backwards. I cannot claim oxygen exists because if oxygen didn’t exists things wouldn’t burn. That’s how much of the past’s pseudoscience got their legs, the insistence there was anything scientific about how they reach their conclusion was how it got preserved for such a long time.

The ether in one side, plate tectonics in the other, your method is of reaching conclusions is wrong and why you are not persuading anyone.
Background Pony #75E3
@JJMDude
No, it doesn’t. You are grabbing an a priori conclusion, then concluding it only makes sense it makes sense because otherwise it wouldn’t make sense. Don’t you see how that is a problem?

@Sjogre
Well, I should say, ready enough to present the final test, to see for certain. She could still have been wrong, after all.

Plus, I always got the feeling that not just ANY pony could be magicked-up and turned into an alicorn. Celestia was clearly looking for for young ponies with a vanishingly rare trait or potential. Proto-alicorns, if you will. They always had a semblance of the power within, but it would take an extra push to bring it out. It only makes sense.

@Sjogre
Personally, I like the idea better that Twilight didn’t become a princess under duress, or out of some dramatic necessity. I think the idea that Celestia put her to this test now is stronger for there being no other present threat involved. Celestia set this up, just because she believed it was time: that Twilight had proven herself and was, without a doubt in her mind, READY to take on this responsibility and assume the role she was always meant for.

I think that comes off better than, “I don’t know if you’re ready, but this new threat has arisen, and we will need you! It’s time to fly before you can run!” It speaks to the idea that Twilight BELONGS up on that throne. I mean, if it was to happen “out of nowhere,” these would be the more ideal circumstances.

Quick thing…

Starswirl the Bearded was from a time of institutionalized racism. I can’t imagine anyone from that time knowing much about friendship.

@JJMDude
Thing is, the fight against Discord covered all of that, and covered it better and in a more climatic way.

The solution in that episode was ultimately simple, and the lesson was dramatic, simple, and meaningful, while still providing a suitable climax and following from the events of the episode.

The spell to turn Twilight into a winged unicorn came out of nowhere, both dramatically and narratively. Twilight becoming a princess would have made more sense after the fight with Discord, or after Nightmare Moon was turned back into Luna.

This episode came across as Celestia pitching an excuse instead of using one of Twilight’s real accomplishments or just crowning Twilight in recognition of what she had already learned.

@Kamarat
That I’ll agree with as well.

FIM has delved right into the realm of “spoiler-mania” when it comes to all the sneak-peaks and leaked screenshots. It’s like Hasbro has no concept on the difference between teasing the moneyshot of a movie and giving away the climax.

I was just really glad we never saw a FRAME of Celestia’s Ballad in all that, because upon seeing the ethereal plane after the commercial break… my jaw pretty much dropped. That’s easily one of my favorite moments in the entire series.
