Well, I always imagined a Nick Angel type reassignment.

All the while Twilight being clueless as to why Spike is being overprotective too.
It’ll become real by the time he’s done packing. I doubt the Crystal Empire has an Internal Affairs division to audit him.

But seriously, if Flash does return in any serious capacity then Shining Armor being overprotective and constantly trying to keep him away from his sister would make for some fun plots and decent characterization.
