I was thinking they were developed independently of each other myself, but as facetious as Mixermike622’s journal entry (linked in this comment) is, it proves he did know of /co/’s fluffy ponies, and his claim that Fluffle Puff is a fluffy pony may or may not be part of the joke.
Wasn’t it proven they where actually made independent for one another?
Even then the changes over the time both where created just proves they are not the same anymore.
BP#0D7B does have one point; it looks like the /co/ fluffy ponies did inspire Fluffle Puff, even if she’s evolved differently from the rest of her fluffy kin. Given how ridiculous the rest of the journal is, I’m not certain that’s the case, but it seems to be.
Sounds like someone hasn’t seen any of Mixermike’s stuff with Fluffle for a long time.
Seems you are the only one that think she is a fluffy pony here, other see her as a silly pony with a fluffy cost.

Nope, doesn’t work for her.
What do you mean “doesn’t work with”? It’s specifically in reference to her.
I miss the old days too, but Fluffle Puff was always debated on if she was a fluffy pony or not, so that second thing doesn’t work with her, she seems to work on a rule of funny with a bit of impossibility thrown in.
She was conceived independently of the fluffy ponies, I think, and is completely different in purpose and execution. So I think it’s safe to say she doesn’t count as a “fluffy pony”.

Just like Milky Way, Button’s Mom, Molestia, and all the other fandom memes, yes, its popularity is dead/dying.
I think they started losing popularity with the rise fluffy pony grimdark. Flufflepuff is still pretty popular, if she counts.
Nah, I think they’re still going strong enough.
