Anubis is the third being we know has been possessed by this nightmare force (going by the fact Sweetie Belle explains to Bast based on seeing the heiroglyphics that suggested a similar possession as NMM).

Agreed in general, though in this case, I fully assume that the host knows they’ve been corrupted and remember everything that their corrupted did.
 
Or in Luna’s case, learned, hence her having dream walking abilities after her return and which she is putting to good use and in a manner to completely avoid the jealousy that existed before.

Basically, the Nightmare isn’t so much a symbiote (like Venom) as it is a parasite: it pushes and prods at the potential host’s mind until it conforms to its needs, then waits until the right moment and takes over without the host’s knowledge, making him or her compliant to its way of thinking. Probably some hosts never even realize that they’ve changed.

I understand that if it was simply a force that took over Luna or Rarity or whomever else without having to do anything else, then yes it takes away from Luna’s redemption within the show. She should have nothing to apologize for as it wouldn’t be her fault. If there was no requirement that the host body had to have and the force could take it whenever, it completely cheapens the nature
 
But the comics make it clear that this force cannot take its host without the host accepting it’s power. It needs its intended victim to feel jealous and angry and bitter, making that host the vessel for it. Whether the force does this by tricking the host into becoming jealous or by just identifying the possible host and pushing them over the edge, it still now makes the end ‘‘some’’ responsibility of the host. In Luna’s case, and shown both in show and comics, it was her jealousy of Celestia - in a land where friendship and the like are the lifeblood - that allowed her to become NMM, and thus she truly has something to atone for - not so much for what NMM did but being jealous of her sister and not working it out before she became NMM. She’s apologetic for what she had allowed to happen. If you take that, and then watch the end of S1E2 and how the returned Luna reacts to Celestia, it works perfectly. She’s apologize for what happened 1000 yrs ago, not what happened in the interim.

Thats my main issue with IDW’s version of Nightmare Moon, that something else possesed Luna, In my opinion that takes a lot from Luna’s Character, instead of being someone that did or wanted to do something horrible and let her bitternes and jealousy take over her and now seeks to redeem for her past on the comics she never did anythog wrong, its not her fault, she’s inocent, she was poseesed, on Luna eclipsed she was sad and looking for aceptance for no reason at all… I really hate that

This is fucking stupid. Why has this been shoehorned in like this? If you were told that Bruce Banner, a guy who worked on creating super soldier experiments with radiation and what not, has this power when he gets angry that he transformed into the hulk you would assume it’s because of his work, something happened even if you were not told you would assume this because it fits right in. It’s the equivalent of explaining that a wandering old gypsy put a curse on him.
 
It doesn’t link to the character, we are being told that luna got her ability to dreamwalk from a bunch of fucking magical kittens creating potions on the moon. This is the princess of the night! What a shit explanation, seriously disappointed. How much more shit-cannon are these guys going to ram into the mlp universe? Dragons living in cities no one knows about, twilight not defending her friends and acting totally out of character, the sirens being cast away from equestria by starswirl hoping those on the other side of the mirror can take care of them? That’s something to look up to, that’s just evil starswirl, are you crazy? Hoping? Do you know they can beat them?
 
Thoroughly disappointed by this, Celestia has visions, it’s mentioned in the tirek episode and on enterplay cards. Luna saw Celetias vision because she was asleep in the tirek episode, it makes sense, what would not make sense is that she got her powers for visions from some magical talking kittens making potions, instead of having the ability to have visions of danger because she is the princess of the day and loves all.
 
The cutie markless episode established the idea that your talant allows you to do incredible things, magical things, isnt that good enough. Fuck this.

I remember, in Luna’s mini-comic, she mentioned playing chess on the moon. So her being awake shouldn’t have come as this much of a surprise.

even if that is debatable, it is not debatable that she is supposed to be trapped and that there is no way someone who becomes so crazed she destroys half a castle chasing after her own sister, would be so ho hum about failing.
