not anything can become a meme. it has to be an idea that spreads, such as how hard people try to keep in mind that milhouse isn’t a meme. apple can’t be a meme, because it’s too general; there’s nothing to spread. the contents of the latest edition of gray’s anatomy can’t be a meme because they release new editions, and it’s way too much effort to spread the entire thing for little reward. “buy some apples” can be a meme, because it was amusing when someone used it as a bleep censor, so other people want to do that too.

forced memes are not memes btw, because the act of forcing it upon you makes you want to spread it less not more. (unless you have to spread it without wanting to, but that’s creepy)
