eh, quality over quantity. i don’t have a ton of requests to do.

Well, for me it’s not just quantity over quality. But it’s whether I enjoyed what I am doing, or not. So my enjoyment is come first, so far I like it.

My first post way way way back was about my concern with the quality of the people volunteering to help. Already seen Joey not accepting every single person so I’m very happy to know there is quality control.
 
But… And no offense to you @Cyan Lightning. I’m seeing a lot of reused poses there. Editing your image of one person’s OC into another is really kinda lazy, and given the counter you have gonig on, seems greedy too. You’re taking a shortcut to get more requests done. And god it is hard to complain about something as helpful and good as that. I just feel like such a villain bringing this up.  
I think you should either edit the characters much more to make them different poses to each other, even if it’s just one leg edited like you’ve already done. Or just let the others take some more requests. It looks like some artists who have offered arent getting any requests, whilst you get loads. For the benefit of the people wanting their OCs drawn I think we need more variety.

First, they are the one that request me. I never expected to got this ton of request in the first place. I was expecting like 8-12 requests or maybe a bit more. And then that’s it people just come to me ask me for requests, aside from friends of mine that I asked, I didn’t ask them. I am fine if they want to decline their request in fact there is a few people that did it. But if they ask for me then I do it.
 
Also lazy? yeah, I am a lazy person after all, but greedy? I don’t like that word a bit, because one I am doing this for free. So I don’t have an obligation to do thing on my full potential. Heck they some of them even offer me a money for request, but I declined. Honestly, I don’t still don’t think that I deserved a money for what I am doing because like I said before, it is just well lazy.
 
Anyway, I am quite glad that a lot of people putting so much trust one me like this. And it’s just an honor to help so many people like that. Also sorry if I am doesn’t sound quite nice, I am not really at the best mood right now. I think I am just going to take rest for bit.

Honestly, I never really expect so much requests in the first place, yeah I was expecting like 1/3 of it. But then again, people just come and ask for me and since I have a lot of time on my hand unlike last year. Yeah I can do more.

If you aren’t feeling up to putting more effort in than editing someone elses OC drawing into a different OC, then maybe say no? Turn them down and direct them to the others. It’s clear you’re getting an unreasonable amount of requests compared to others. And since you began counting them it seemed like you were trying on purpose to get more than anyone else. It’s suspicious…  
And yet it’s more than you can handle unless you rush them. Saying they’re free so you don’t need to put in the effort is a bit alarming to hear. Everyone else is giving it their all. The art piece that we get from the result of all our entries will last forever. Along with the 2 before, a great image for people to come back to for a long time. If there was ever a time to draw your very best, this is it.
 
Spread some of those requests to others, and take your time. It’ll be better for you and us not to rush so many out.

Sigh…. I am not sure what to say now to be honest. It’s clear that we have a bit different moral set. Also no, I am going to “Spread some of those requests to others”, if they decided to decline fine, but I am not going to ask them to ask other artist. Also just bit information that, people that got requests done from me, are happy with the request, even if it’s almost the exact pose, maybe that’s alarming to you, but not to me, because as long as the person that receive happy with result that’s just it. Though I have to admit I am “trying to getting more requests” than anyone else and starting to counting it down (Not exactly, but just in the joking way). But that’s more something a bit less serious and more of me just being joking around. Nothing really suspicious.
 
Also remember I do this for hobby. My enjoyment came first, quality come later, if the other way around it feel like a job. You know something shitty that you do just to get money that you can fulfill your daily thing like taxes, food and stuff. And I certainly don’t want my hobby became a job.

I can understand your concern in regards to similar poses, but I don’t think it’s as huge of a deal as you’re making it out to be. If you look through the current submissions, there’s a lot of characters from a lot of different artists in similar poses.
 
Keep in mind too that I’m expecting between 500 and 700 characters in this collab. We’re only halfway through the submissions window, three weeks to go, and we’re already close to 300 OCs total (when you count all the group submissions). I put a ton of thought and effort into arranging the characters so that everything fits together nicely and nothing stands out too much. So any characters with too similar of poses are not gonna be placed right next to one another. You won’t even notice it by the time the final image is published.

I mean, you do a great job last year with arranging stuff like that. Honestly can’t wait what the thing that you will come out.
 
Also, honestly this is something that quite bugging me especially with artist that like to pursue quality as much as possible. I mean sure, “The art piece that we get from the result of all our entries will last forever”, or whatever the hell that minus want to say. But at same time, a lot of then tend to forget about their own welfare and sadly we tend to talk more about the quality of the art it’s self instead of how the artist create the art in the first, how their mental state in that process. Are they happy while doing it? I mean, quality is good and all and yes it important, at the same time the welfare of the artist is as important as that too. Honestly, I was a person that pursue quality so much to the point that I feel quite miserable afterward, especially music production. It’s nothing but feel like a job with an angry boss and the anxiety is just too much.
 
So at the moment, when I realized that I pretty much neglect my own welfare and sooner or later I would get a burnout. Though not only factor because of some drama in the real life, too. But it also one of the most important factor that lead me to hiatus from both my comic and my music. So yeah, nowadays, I pretty need to think about my own welfare as much as I need to think about improving quality as much as possible.
 
Anyway, sorry for rant. It’s just something that I bit holding it. But still I can’t wait until how this collab turn out and I am sure it will be great.

Opinions will be opinions friend. Just do what you love to do. :) I draw and do what I love to do. Rarely people will disagree with my drawings or certain opinions, but in the end, it’s just that: An opinion. You don’t have to live up to someone else’s views, as long as you’re enjoying yourself with what you do.

Honestly, I think what you and the other volunteer artists are doing is amazing! There’s a lot of people who wouldn’t be able to participate in the collab if it wasn’t for everyone helping each other out. That’s part of what makes this community so awesome. What you’re doing is very much appreciated, and does not go unnoticed.
 
I sincerely apologize that it seems like I glossed over that. I shared some additional thoughts on modchat, figuring you’d see them there, and somehow completely missed the fact that you weren’t actually on IRC at the time. That’s completely my fuck-up, sorry about that!

This is my submission for this year, idk if the flag will be obstructed for other pony in the collab but don’t mind really, i just want to her in it :D

Are groups allowed? I was planning on just drawing a pack of my friends together to help save time drawing… Time is not on my side this year and trying just to do it all in one shot for my submission.

I’ve debated whether or not i should say anything, and i feel a lot of anxiety in anything i do, but i feel that perhaps this may need to be said just so some light might be shed on things and I’m sorry for posting anonymously but i’m sharing feelings that i wouldn’t normally express and sorry for my twodderling.
 
I have censored this because after reading it over and over. It’s a bit of a mood drop / whiny sounding. you don’t have to read it:
 
Its not like its a contest and it doesn’t matter ‘who’s done the most,’ just you helped play a part to include others in the event. Its great so many have offered to help and thats what should count. Also you’ll see users will tend to go for an artist they are familiar with / like, with a prospect to have their characters drawn by them too good to pass up.
 
But in saying that, that leads to a possible outcome for the other side of the argument. A lot of the volunteers, who raised to the occasion and offered to help others are sitting idle. They may be checking the thread often or their inbox only to find not only no requests, but the thread being filled with completed requests, mostly by the same people. I mean we volunteered, its not our right to except loads of people to flock to us to full fill requests, but some might feel like they aren’t good enough.
 
I know i feel a little bit sad with hows its gone so far. Actually i became very depressed if I’m being honest with you all. I do draw for fun, and with anything i commit myself in doing i give it my all. But after all that effort and then lack of any kind of response… it’s made me feel very inadequate.
 
The only saving grace i’ve had was on Wednesday when i had a very unexpected visitor to my home. I didn’t know he was there because i had headphones on, but he was talking to my dad while they watched me draw an upcoming picture for the site. When they got my attention they both let me know how great the picture was coming and asked if i’d done others (i ended up showing them my collab submission and other bits). we ended up talking about it for a good hour afterwards.
 
Others might not have that.
 
Sorry again for the rant, and sorry for being a bit of a downer, but maybe it was worth sharing… I think, I’m not too sure.

Must admit I’ve had no requests at all yet, although I’m guessing my own style isn’t to everyone’s liking, being traditional only.
 
Just concentrating on my own projects in the meantime.

That’s pretty well said. You shouldn’t feel sorry for ranting, that’s a very justified concern.
 
There are several really great artists on the list who, to my knowledge, have not gotten any requests yet. Some of them I would love to ask to draw my character for the collab, even, if I didn’t already draw her myself. But I don’t think a lack of requests is reflective of skill, or how good of an artist one is.
 
Instead, upon reflecting upon what’s been said tonight, I think the issue is a lot simpler - look at who’s getting a lot of requests, and look at where they were on the volunteer list. Then look at who’s getting few-to-no requests, and where they were on the list. I think what is going on is that people who need a character drawn are simply just picking names off the top of the list.
 
The first time we did a community collab, there wasn’t any volunteer list in the OP. Instead, someone would just post in the thread “hey, can someone draw my OC”, and then artist would respond “claiming” the request. During the second collab, there was a volunteer list added to the OP, but artists kinda cycled in and out - they’d get a few requests, then ask to be removed from the list until they completed them, and then other artists got moved up on the list.
 
This year, things aren’t going the same way. Instead, the person who was added to the top of the list at the beginning, Cyan, has a lot of capacity to draw a lot of characters, so he’s not had any need to remove himself from the list, and requests were just accumulating with him instead of tricking down the list. This is not something that’s occurred before, so I didn’t account for this possibility.
 
And to be clear, he didn’t do anything wrong and had no ill intent - he’s just trying to help out as much as he can. I just never considered that one person helping out too much may cause other people to not be able to help out as much as they’d like. So if anything, this was my mistake for failing to anticipate such a possibility, and I’m sorry that it occurred.
 
As for how to fix this going forward - I used random.org to shuffle the list of volunteers, so there’s some new names up top. I can keep doing this every day, or every other day, until the deadline, to try to give as many volunteer artists a shot as possible. That’s about the best I can think of at the moment. If anyone has any other suggestions though, I’m very open to hearing them.
 
Also, I would like to ask that if any volunteer artists have already completed several requests, or have several that they’re currently working on, that they maybe consider removing themselves from the volunteer list so that any future requests would be focused towards the volunteers who haven’t had any requests yet. There’s a ton of amazing talent on that list, and it’d be awesome to see everyone getting a chance to help out.
