Also the original Lamia could take her eyes out, a power that was given to her by Zeus after Hera cursed her with sleeplessness :P
Before that Lamia was a woman who became a child killer after Hera killed her children for having an affair with Zeus, who would later become a boogeyman-type character who killed children and seduced youths to eat their flesh, and the Nāga were a group of deities who could take the shape of giant snakes. :D
There’s also the Lamia of Basque Mythology who are entirely benevolent, being beautiful siren-like people with duck feet (sometimes depicted as mermaids) who do farm siren-like women with duck feet who would help people in exchange for gifts left for them and could be male or female :P
From what I can tell nowadays, the two terms are basically interchangeable, but I’ve noticed people in the RPG / Monster Girl crowd tend to use “lamia” while furries tend to use “naga” :D
