Bad news, it’s currently 65-67 in much of the world, and bound to go up a couple years each decade. We’re all gonna be 80 and still renting by the time any of us can retire and have enough left over to live off rice and beans.

It’s a big gamble, but my hope is I end up in a decent enough post-American warlord state that looks after its elders.

You kind of have to wonder about the state of politics if a convicted felon and adjudicated rapist can stand on a public stage and spend 90 completely unchallenged minutes giving a diatribe on the history of the fanfiction world his brain permanently resides in and still be declared the big political winner both because of how strongly he is committed to his own made up mythology, and because the other guy had a sore throat.

Reading the article, the decision has basically gutted regulations - again! Previously if a business wasn’t certain on Congressionally made laws they would have to defer to federal agencies like the EPA. Now they can just ignore the EPA and pollute to their hearts content.

Naturally it was a 6-3 decision.

Congress writes a lot of laws with vague language and expects regulatory agencies to fill in the blanks. The 1984 SCOTUS case Chevron v. NRDC established a rule whereby courts were not to overrule an agency’s interpretation of a statute unless it’s contrary to the clear intent of Congress or completely pants-on-head stupid. This latest decision scraps that rule, making legal challenges to federal regulations much easier. Which has the potential to be a huge problem for health, safety, the environment, yada yada, depending on how dumb the judges’ own interpretations are.

Not only has the Supreme Court done that, but they also said that its perfectly fine to give bribes “gratitudes” towards government officals doing what you want them to do as long as you give the bribes “GRATITUDES” AFTER the act, but they also passed a law allowing local governments to make homelessness a crime by making it illegal for homeless people to sleep in public spaces

Yeah I figured this would be posted. I do think we have too many conservatives in the court.

I love it. Any time Congress need that improves lives is proposed it has to be means-tested AF.

Universal Basic Income is one of the few programs that every time it’s been tested it ends with a result of “It works. It just fucking works” and yet we have to test it again and again to see if it really does work.

How is this relevant to the making it illegal to be homeless? The average cost of jailing someone can be anywhere from $30-150 a day. So anywhere from $900-4,500 a month.

It’s literally cheaper to just give people $1000 a month than spend 4x as much making their life harder, but oh no we can’t just give money away! That’d be socialism!
