MLP G5 Discussion and Speculation Thread

To be fair to G4 it did do a good job at introducing the characters. Even if I didn’t find the pilot that interesting, they did show certain important characteristics about G4 they would have or strive to have in the future.

Why didn’t they develop Zipp’s personality? My assumption based on her design and some very small things about her personality is that Zipp probably hates the fact that she’s apparently next in line for the throne. Pipp would probably love that, but the mom said it was Zipp who would be Queen. She doesn’t strike me as the Queen-y type, so why not develop that?

Zipp had more personality than most of the characters, particularly hitch and pipp.

But we didn’t get a scene of her saying “Mom, I don’t want to be the Queen!” Will that be an episode?

Hopefully it will be but the movie focused more on another part of her personality, her love for the truth, and to be an authentic pegasus.
 
Like with wanting to actually fly or knowing that earth ponies pegasi and unicorns truly did live together.

Zipp is already leagues better then Rainbow dash will ever be.

I guess the difference is that Zipp doesn’t try to be cool. She just is.
 
Rainbow had to go through an arc to get better.
 
Zipp will have to go through her own journey of course like having to wait to become queen.
 
I think these two are both good characters but they go through different journeys. They might seem similar but different.

nah even without that i just found rainbow dash to be annoying for like 90% of the show lol
 
and she never got better

I definitely do like Zipp’s attitude. How she loves science and athletics to try to solve problems. I like how she wanders secret corridors too. She also isn’t so worried about what others think about her and she goes her own way.
 
Zipp seems like a mare I would probably like to have as a friend.

I don’t blame you lol. She can be annoying a lot of the time.
 
Zipp would probably roll her eyes at hearing Rainbow unironically thinking reading is uncool.
 
I still think there are good parts to Rainbow but I do think I will prefer Zipp more.
 
And there are times Rainbow could have been written better.

With this description, you’d think SD would be more taken with Zipp. Sounds a little like Dash and Twi in one pony.

I liked her in Over a Barrel (I think a very good depiction of Rainbow) and Cutie Mark Chronicles where she protected Fluttershy.

I’m already imagining how an interaction between Zipp Storm and Rainbow Dash might go…  
“Hey now, nopony should need to always brag about how awesome they are. If you know the stuff you’ve got, all you gotta do is show ’em and stay true to you.”

I gotta agree on the RD front, throughout the entire run of G4 I disliked RD to the point of physically cringing when she was on screen more often than not. Some of her appearances were ok to good, especially her development of learning to love reading and her interactions with FS, but more often than not she was so obnoxious and brash and overly stereotyped it just made me hate the character archetype. I’m sure a lot of it is to do with the meh writing because she definitely had potential to be much better. It’s like they tried to make her disliked.
 
Zipp, though, is how you do it properly; Zipp wound up being one of my very favorite characters from the new gen already. A very versatile, well balanced, and likable version of the character type with great depth.

I hate to say it, but I agree  
I didn’t like RD much for most of the show’s run because of all the hubris  
Zipp seems like a more well rounded character, at least so far, and I already like her

Is Pipp the girly version of Rainbow because they both love attention from fans (not saying this in a negative way)

zipp didn’t try to commit terrorism over her pet sleeping for the winter so that automatically makes her better :P
 
i swear the series better not pull this shit again with Pipp and/or Zipp pulling the same stunt over cloudpuff

Not sure if this was intended on the creators part, but I do like that G5 starts pretty similar to G4, with a different art approach to past events setting stuff up with a voice transition over to whi will be our main hero.
 
Also that the main character is inspired to action based on a story everyone else around them considered “an old mare’s tale”
