The issue isn’t the voice acting talent. The issue is this utterly unbelievable entertainment industry making us feel like it’s a prerequisite to not be a decent human being in order to get hired. I’m very glad that the voice cast for the G5 shows is not as deep in the industry as the G5 movie cast, but still…I SO want Hollywood gone and replaced…

Yikes, yeah, even under the most charitable interpretation (he wasn’t aware of the true nature of the crimes, he was naive and couldn’t believe an old friend would do such a thing), it’s still a really bad look

I’m hoping none of the rest of the Mane 5’s voices show up on that list (though considering all the rest of them were under 18 at the time, I really doubt it) - I haven’t seen the full list, but unfortunately, from what I have seen, I know at least one other ANG cast member shows up on it: Will Friedle, who voiced Skye Silver and did the VO for that Parfum la Pipp ad, IIRC

That’s a fair point - it’s not so much just the entertainment industry as it is the upper echelon of a lot of various industries (and the rich in general), being kind of disconnected from the real world, off in their own bubble, it can seem like

At this point in time, James Marsden has not responded to what has come out, but even if he tells his side of the story in a way that makes it easier for his fans to have a charitable interpretation of what happened…it’s still going to be difficult to look at him the same way. If MLP: ANG is going to be re-released as rumored, I think it’s for the best that they have his and anyone else on that list’s lines redone by other VAs. I’m sure JJ Gerber would readily accept the offer to redub Hitch’s lines.

One thing I don’t like about cancel culture is they’ll dig up something you while we’re young and naive at that time. It wasn’t punishable before but when you changed from that experience, is that not enough? Nah, it’s never enough.

I’m not gonna have the movie redubbed when it could be that one chance at a very small physical cost to use that money to continue MYM instead.

I think this would be a bit much work for a re-release, it’s not like Hitch’s voice actor committed a crime, and he just lent his voice.

…When did cancel culture come into all this? We’re not talking about the actions of teenagers and young adults here. James Marsden was 31 at the time he wrote that letter. I don’t want him deplatformed, I want him to answer for what he has done. And this remark about the movie redubbing…I hope this is a joke. First of all, the money it costs to have the lines of one, two, or a few more than two characters in a movie redubbed is not even close to comparable to the budget of a TV show. Second…I hope you don’t actually believe that a TV show is more important than moral integrity…

morality is always more important, unfortunately the executives don’t think like that, the objective of the relaunch is to spend as little as possible, since he didn’t commit any crime and his image is not in the film, unless the controversy gets too big they would simply ignore it , the industry is very insensitive.

You got that right, the industry couldn’t care less, absolutely. However, I personally feel that we should be in support of redubbing regardless out of principle. It not being up to us does not excuse us having a horrible mindset of thinking that entertainment comes before standing for what’s right.

Edit: Correct me if I’m wrong about Sonic 3 being in development but let’s not scrap that entire project because of one guy. We lost Coyote vs Acme because of one higher up.

If they already the Skyros arc ready to be released and given how strict Discovery Family is on the rights of G4 until April 2025 they missed to chance to expand on what happened to the G4 alicorns

Agreed, I definitely think it is proper to support a redubbing, which I do (even if it is for selfish reasons in my case, admittedly: I don’t want to think about that stuff when I’m watching ANG in the future, and especially until Marsden answers for it, it’ll hang like a black cloud in the back of my mind). We should also remain cognizant of the fact that, unless it starts significantly affecting the one metric Hasbro cares about above all others (that being toy sales), it’s extremely unlikely that they even acknowledge it, let alone spend the money to redub those lines, and thus base our decisions off that knowledge. At most, they’d probably try to quietly pull the promotional stuff they filmed for the movie - if it features James Marsden - from the official MLP channel.

For example, I probably would still go to see the theatrical rerelease, because there are too many other things I love about it, but my enjoyment still would be dampened somewhat. And it’s not like I can get the movie refunded from the various places I purchased it from (Amazon, Apple, YouTube)

At least Will Friedle seems to realize what a fuckup it was to do that (though that’s still a blemish, and a deserved one, on his reputation), so I could see forgiving but not forgetting in his case.

I feel like that’s comparing apples to oranges - a more apt thing to say is that Sonic 3 would probably go ahead for the same reason WBD scrapped their release of Coyote vs. Acme: it all comes down to money. Unless the movie stood to lose more money from the controversy hanging over the actor, I can’t see them changing things up at this point.

I think it’s a trait of basically all big businesses (especially for the executives and shareholders) - the bottom line is always the most important thing, no matter what they say to the contrary. And that goes for all industries, really

That literally makes zero sense

There is no chance that Hasbro would go out of their way to redub all of Hitch’s lines from the movie because of Marsdens old support letter to Brian Peck if the movie ever gets a theatrical re-release, since they would see that as a waste of money on their end.
