Luna: That won’t be necessary. A friend of Sombra, named Radiant Hope, came and warned us of his plans at this time. Though, that may make your deadline a bit closer than wanted…  
Golden Gears: Exactly, which is why I said you must not take too long. It’s in this time period you’re traveling to that Sombra makes the Crystal Empire disappear.

(sombra didn’t exactly volunteer, the umbrum blasted one of their kind into pony form and sent him through what keeps them imprisoned. he emerged as a foal, nearly freezing to death just outside the empire.)

(Sombra was an umbrum blasted into foal form and apparently forgetting that part of his origins.  
he grew up alongside radiant hope in an orphanage, they were friends and wanted to visit the crystal festival.  
however, every year at the festival, when the crystal heart is charged, he would be laid low with incredible pain.  
as a young adult he finally found out what he really was and why the crystal heart hurt him  
Amore had figured it out earlier, but kept it secret, hoping the crystal heart would eventually accept him fully and (i honestly never understood her motivations.)  
Sombra did not take it so well, petrifying her into a crystal statue and shattering her.  
that’s about when radiant hope returned with the princesses.  
they fought and nearly won against him but then he ecided to get a break in.)
