I’ve noticed that the tag “crack shipping” needs more implications, because the only tag implied by it is “lilda” (and there are more crack shippings with more quantity of images). One example can be mauxie.
Note about “mauxie”: it looks like that someone derped in the description of the shipping and accidentally wrote wrong the word “shipping”:

What constitutes a “crack” ship will differ from person to person so some kind of definition might be handy.
Shipping beyond all bounds of sanity. There are official couples and there are couples drawn from more-or-less subjective subtext, and then there are pairings that make you go “What?” Characters who are shipped together despite barely even having a relationship in canon. Sometimes they haven’t even met in canon. Sometimes they don’t even belong to the same ‘verse (that’s what Crossovers are for, after all) or to the same species. Sometimes they aren’t even both carbon-based lifeforms.Crack pairings range from the making-you-scratch-your-head-in-puzzlement weird, to the eyes-gouging-with-a-fork-inducing weird. But they always leave you asking “Why? By all that is holy, WHY?”.

I’d personally go with “characters that have no obvious similarities in personality and have never been shown or implied to have met.”

I’d modify that last bit and add/change “and perhaps possibly have never even met”, because we’ve got crackships with characters who have met, such as Gilda/Spike.
Otherwise you might have some people removing the tag off images and justifying it with “but they met!”

I don’t see how you can define it in any satisfactory way. “obvious similarities in personality” is ridiculously subjective. Is AJ/Rarity crackshipping? They’re complete opposites but lots of people ship them for exactly that reason. Chrysalis and Sombra have never met but presumably have things in common. Crackshipping? Do we really want to debate every one of these thousands of pairings?

Mauxie is as crack as they come, popularity doesn’t mean shit about classification, one of my fave ships is crack and I fully admit it, nor do I ever pretend it’s anything otherwise.

In all honesty… I don’t see the point in calling a ship a crack ship on this website.
We tag according to what we see in the image. If what we see is a ship, we call it a ship. Crack ship is a subjective tag, and not one that should be placed on any one ship. Let’s face it, at the end of the day, all ships are crack ships.
So… yeah, rather than arguing over which ships it applies to, I think we should delete the tag.

It’s not “semantic”; a canon couple is not a ship, it’s a canon couple. There is no Carrotcup ship or Nightvelvet ship or Shiningcadance ship, because those characters are already paired onscreen.

Correct. Unless they are acknowledged as a couple, it’s not canon. And no, that doesn’t make Flashlight or Timberlight canon. Perceived attraction is how all ships get started to begin with. Frankly Hasbro is better at teasing same sex ships than anything else.

Tagging a ship a crack ship only lends itself to confusion, as not everyone will agree. Next we’ll have flutterdashers tagging Flarity as crack ships >.> anarchy I tell you!
