Fanon Style Hippogriffs and Classical-G4 Style Hippogriffs

For the moment? Except guess waht, there are already some new OC designs I’ve seen in the latest movie style for example, and it doesnt include those earlier designs which are simliar enough to count, the ‘classical hippogriffs.’

I would say that its on the same reasoning of having both a straight tag and a gay tag, whereas you could just as well search shipping, !straight and yeild the same results on the topic of why not both.
 
Plus there are definitely conceivably times where you would have both varieties in the same image, and where having both tagged would be relevant.
 
But even then, having a tag on their characters literally doesn’t affect their site experience. It falls into the same exact argument as you gave before.

On that note, that particular tag combination has its obsolescence built in. Let’s say a hippogriff appears in a future episode of the show, or more than one – it’s already known that movie elements and species will show up this coming season. What then?

Not really. You’re argument boils down to no, I dont want it.
 
But I will happily respond to a reasoned argument if you put one forward, as I did in the past in this thread. Like with the argument that yall came first, which is untrue, and I proved it.

Can we just stick with the current tagging, remove the grifling tag so everything is back to normal, and add a classical hippogriff tag to all the movie/mythologically accurate hippogriffs for now, and maybe discuss a subtag for fanon hippogriffs later? It seems like the fanon name is a separate issue, since that’s mainly “what do people like most to call them as a subgroup”, and that most people are ok with leaving hippogriff as an overarching tag, with a movie/mythologically accurate subtag being ok too. Discussing tagging fanon hippogriffs just turns into “I don’t like that name” debates, which should be had, but is holding up this initial debate.
 
edit whether fanon hippogriffs should be tagged is another question that I glossed over. That should also be discussed. But regardless, my main point is that with every poll and suggestion so far, it’s merging solutions to like 5 different questions, when we should just all slow down and take things step by step. Revert changes made in haste/mistake, discuss if fanon hippogriffs should be called hippogriffs (which seems settled at this point), discuss if movie/mythologically accurate hippogriffs should get their own tag, what should that tag be if so, should fanon hippogriffs get their own tag, what should it be if so.

You know … with this kind of thing? It’s ok for people to just want, or not want, something. And it isn’t necessary that every opinion be backed by an argument.
 
Everything doesn’t have to logical - feelings count too. And there’s no wrong way to feel.

Yeah - if you have a “thing” OC and you don’t want your OC to be tagged “Pseudothing”, then you don’t need to have a reason for not wanting it other than you don’t want it.
 
You just don’t want it.
 
That doesn’t mean you get what you want, but you don’t have to have reasons for what you don’t want, other than you don’t want it.

I’m not going to tell you that you don’t relly have to follow any standards when designing a mythical creature, but you don’t have to, if you claim it is hgryph and people can tell where you are coming from, its a hgryph

Then that’s breaking the established definition. If you don’t like the name “Griffon” for the set of characters with certain characteristics (say, preferring “gryphon”, or “catbird”, or whatever), that’s more akin to what is being discussed, and the point I think Derpy was trying to make. There might not be a specific, logical “reason” for preferring one over the other, just that you like one more. That’s more the debate here.

But Cirrus and them do break an established definition. A very long established one. Both in the fanon world, and in mythology. They just happened to get enough art to influence people going forward.

the people who use said species that you want kicked out, should be allowed to make their own racial name, Griffling makes them sound like children, or foals and the such.

At this point, the polls don’t even matter. It’s not even a matter of what people want so much as people voting for Gyro or whoever spreads it around for the other side because they’re just helping a friend. As soon as the poll spread to different groups and discords, it became a pathetic popularity contest rather then an actual attempt to solve an issue.

Nothing at this point as anything to do with griffling. It will be a different name.
 
And at this point the most held view it seems is the have everything under Hippogriff and sub tags for each, so no one getting “kicked out”

If we cick out 95% of hgryph out of the tag for not meeting all creterias you deem necessary, better throw out 100% of al normal gryph for not meeting all creterias of historical gryphs

Actually though, its interesting. There’s a number of people who I’ve dropped this on who take issue with talon horses as hippogriffs…saying its always bugged them. I’ve dropped it in places and made my point of course, but thats hardly a popularity thing. I’m amused really at the amount of people voting the most extreme option. Even if that somehow won…I feel like it probably ought not to be applied for reasons listed earlier in this thread though.

its only 75% of images really, and a smaller percentage of OCs, though still the majority. Anyways, not advocating for kicking em out anymore.
 
I definitely have 1 friend who hates show gryphons for that reason though :P

It’s less definition and more “unified defining traits”. Your character shares all the defining traits of what is called a “gryphon”. Now, if you think you have enough unique traits to call yourself a “Peacock Chimera”, because of your peacock attributes, then sure, that could be discussed as a unique subspecies, but you still share the traits of that species gryphon/griffon/catbird. Similarly, we’re trying to figure out what to name the group of gryphon/pony hybrids, of any fraction. Currently, hippogriff has been used without too much of an issue for that group. You’re telling people they can’t use that word to describe that group because it doesn’t match your defining characteristics of what you think a hippogriff should be. That’s where the feelings come in. You feel our definition of hippogriff should match mythology, while others are arguing that it has been established that in the fandom, hippogriff means pony/gryphon hybrid, and you’re trying to reverse that established definition. You both have reasons for why you want that group named something specific, but it still comes down to what you prefer to use as your reasons, which still have no real basis outside your feelings.

Nobody is being kicked out of a tag. The real options are (a) do nothing and leave it as a single hippogriff tag with no distinctions or (b) keep hippogriff as an umbrella tag, so that all of the hippogriffs of every kind are still tagged hippogriff, but there are additional tags to distinguish between the two.
 
So a movie style hippogriff would be tagged with “hippogriff” and “classical hippogriff”, whereas a character like Cirrus would be tagged with “hippogriff” and “fanon hippogriff”. Note that those are just placeholder names I’m using for the tags right now.
