And yes, this one does require an additional hurdle but you can still spoof it. Its really a shame derpibooru doesnt have a poll option built in.

Reasonably sure its mostly burbs vs burbs, the mods seem rather uncommitted, but yes I’ve dropped that link into a couple IRC channels I inhabit, which probably was one of those jumps.

Given that the 2 methods of detecting dupes are either IP or cookie based, both can be worked around. Its the nature of an online poll. If derpi had built in polling that was tied to an account, sure, so now we’re back in the same position.

Honestly there are so many different opinions from others and either side can be argued, there are alot of others who could care less. This is really dumb and i can see why alot of people dont care whats happening. This drama needs to stop, not many people care what happens and all of this started because of the movie. what would you say if the show staff made hippogriffs look like the fanon hippogriffs, maybe its the show staffs rendition, and whos to say that there arent different types of hippogriffs?

Which is why 2 is the best option, since it allows the searching for both and doesnt take away the hippogriff tag from anyone.
 
Both varieties of Hippogriff should reside under the hippogriff tag, with separate subtags denoting which variety. You would still be a hippogriff, it just allows us, the users of derpi to find what we’re looking for better, either to find more of your type, or to find more of the show style type.
 
As far as starting because of the movie, I can say that I, at least, have wanted some sort of differentiation for ages. I definitely can bring up chat logs to prove it.
 
But on that hypothetical, I’d probably still argue for some sort of split, though with less ground to stand on, its likely that it’d end up like unicorns and classical unicorns.

right but your adding more misstaging options, alot of people arent going to remember to add all the tags you want, granted that happens now but you would just be adding to it. There are oc names and character names that people can search for on top of the hippogriff tag, to me its just you wanting to segregate the two different types of hippogriffs because you think they are in the wrong

As you say, it happens already. The people who do care about it will police the tags. Already done that with griffon and solo male, as examples, fixing the mistagging that went on there.

Tags on any image are probably lacking, and some will be tagged wrong. Tag confusion is hardly an argument. On top of that, hippogriffs are a small enough tag that I’d probably add a watchlist/filter combination to make things tagged properly. Hell, as I’ve stated before, I already do that with griffons.
 
Sure, you can search OC and character names, but that wont show or exclude one genus of hippogriffs, which is useful for say, pose references, or other things. And what, so what if someone doesnt want to see your version of hippogriff and prefers to see the other? I mean, you probably dont want to see some gore or fetish content, and filter it. No need to force people to see what they dont want to.

you also gave yourself a bad wrap when you forced the griffling tag on characters without 100% approval and not talking with the people that were under the hippogriff tag

For the sake of argument, I don’t see how this would be different from how the majority of the species tags work. I doubt there are all that many people who habitually hide, filter or search the classical unicorn, storm guard, flash bee, zebracorn or mermare tags, especially compared to the major tags, but they’re there anyway.
 
Which brings me to another point: there are plenty of tags on this site that are only of use to a small group of people and whose presence doesn’t affect anyone else one way or the other. Why is this a bad thing? I can understand not wanting to tag every tiny little detail, but I don’t really understand why adding a tag to help delineate between two types of creatures that objectively look very different would be harmful – it would apply to a lot of images, and either you get use of it or it doesn’t impact your use of the site either way.
 
EDIT: I should perhaps clarify I am referring to a hypothetical situation where the only change is the introduction of a “classical hippogriff” tag.

Or so those who, especially with the movie now, are looking for reference material with the new style can find it, or those looking for reference poses or design ideas using talon horses can find it.
 
Or heaven forbid, what if some talon horses don’t really like the style of classical hippogriffs? Tags have a myriad of uses.

And then you avoid all the pre-existing OCs like Silver Quill, or new OCs that come out based on the movie designs that aren’t going to be tagged with “my little pony: the movie” because they weren’t in the movie.
