I know it’s been five years but still.
From “Call of the cutie:
Twist: Isn’t my cutie mark swell? I’ve always loved making my own favorite sweets, but it took me some time to discover that it was my super-special talent. Pretty sweet, huh?
Apple Bloom: Yeah, pretty… sweet.
Twist: Hey… this doesn’t mean we can’t go to the cute-ceañera together. You’re still gonna come to the party, are you?
And then Apple Bloom decided to not go to the party. So it was Apple Bloom who abandoned Twist
He came with his own unique accessory. Customizing potential, right there.
It’s not the marketing potential, but also the fact that he didn’t catch on. No one noticed or cared, really, because of all the things IN the episode. Heck, people were far more interested in the story behind Stellar Eclipse than the existance of Ancient Beast Dealer…
… and even Stellar Eclipse didn’t catch on very much!
Dude, Ancient Beast Dealer has TONS of marketing potential! Just think of all the Beasts that could be sold to go with him to capture/train?
And the accessories like Cages, Traps, Bait, G-rated hunting gear~
He even has an outfit! Sell multiple outfits!
Sell him alongside similar concepts like the G.I. Joe toys and other “action” products!
Hasbro lost out missing the potential in the Ancient Beast Catcher/Dealer toyline~
I mean, what was his proposal?
I didn’t know he was a Star Wars reference. Still, that character design sticks out for me like a sore thumb.
That Orthrus was cute.
The pony who owned the two-headed dog in “Trade Ya!” who was a reference to a character in Star Wars.
… in Season Four.
And what was that?
Right up there with Ancient Beast Dealer for being utterly useless with its marketing potential.
Exactly. Applejack didn’t even know her.
“Since I don’t have a Cutie Mark, and YOU don’t have a Cutie Mark. You wanna go to Diamond Tiara’s party together?”
It doesn’t sound like she’s asking an actual friend to come to the party. More like an acquaintance that she’s finding an excuse to go to the party with.
Saddly, another thing in the waste basket, like Rarity making bridles… everyone looked at Faust funny for some reason when she wanted to do that, bigots them all!
@Yoshimon1
That’s fair.

I second Twist as a
superThupervillain! They tried that with their originally planned character: Gimpony.
Didn’t go well during the planning phase… even worse for the toy production.
*thupervillain
I hope Twist turns into a supervillain.
They just need to put her in a gimp suit from now on, with a ball gag. There, problem solved.
Misaligned teeth are something that gets better over time. Y’know, with braces.
The show’s come to a point where they’d rather make new characters that are pop culture references, than to use the characters they’ve made.
… Then again, I’m gonna say this right know; a lisp is NOT something that gets better with time, so maybe they were on to something…
This may help: http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Character_appearances
One off character, heh, I feel that if I had the free time, I should go through all of the episodes since season 1 that show Cheerilees class and try to spot all of the school fillies that stay through out, and the ones that don’t show up anymore.
Yes, she felt like a one-off character for story purposes, but they could have very very easily reused her in numerous smaller scenes (though lately they gladly started doing that… but the lack of speaking parts really stick out to me.)
