Dr.Kelpie: So far the closest alicorn-looking offspring we have managed to breed is a Changeling with Pegasus characteristics, along with Earth pony blood. Unsuccessful offspring are raised with their mothers until they reach a certain age where we will send them to receive education. Of course, we make sure that the mothers are always in contact with them.

So wait, they just drag off the kid from it’s mother and throw it in another facility? I know it could be a lot worse, but it ain’t great either

From what I can gather, they’re trying to breed a true alicorn. I’m guessing that “unsuccessful offspring” means that it isn’t a alicorn.
