That’s slightly different, because everyone has grandparents. (Not necessarily living grandparents, granted, but your parents had to come from somewhere.)
It wouldn’t have to be constant rambling, just a mention (much as Pinkie mentioned her “Granny Pie” without her actually having been seen).
S4E24: “Gee, I sure wish my brother were here to see me win this silver medal.”
What would you have had them do? Have Fluttershy turn into Eddy, just constantly rambling about an unseen sibling that we’ve never seen and with no connection to the actual plot of the episode, on the off chance that they’d actually put that sibling into an episode some day?
Give me one single scene, from any one episode in the past 5 seasons, where it would have made any kind of sense for Fluttershy to just randomly point out that she has a brother.

There’s a difference. The first season, that’s expected. But to not be mentioned once in almost five and a half seasons?
I know. At least Fluttershy here found out about her sibling before he showed up.
There’s also Shining Armor and Maud Pie, who showed up pretty much the same way this guy seems like he’s going to. It seems like it’s scheduled, really, a surprise sibling every other season. With the exception of Sweetie Belle, who was super early because she read the schedule wrong.
There’s a precedent here, is all I’m saying.
If we count that picture we seen in the background of scare master.

I hated the Shining Armor reveal, personally, and I was annoyed that Maud had to be so shoved in, literally appearing in a photograph where she wasn’t before. Even though I liked it, they could have just used Inkie/Marble or Blinkie/Limestone instead.
Hey now, I thought it was pretty cool when reality was overwritten so that Twilight always had a brother and Pinkie Pie always had a rock obsessed sister. It started a precedent that continues on to this day.
If I had that kind of power, I’d have my OC written into the show as Applejack’s moody little sister, who always existed apparently. :D

The fact that reality has just been overwritten to suddenly include a new sibling that she’s known for all her life/just learned about now? That’d be seriously pretty creepy.
