Discussing unrelated political crap on images has been banned for a long time.
 
The specific politics thread in the forums was closed because posters like you can’t debate which side of a piece of paper to draw on without hurling insults at one another. It was the source of more reports than the entire site on some days.
 
Personally I would have preferred it to remain open, but I’d also prefer not to have to wade through pages of mindless repetition of the same dull points to find out why two users have decided to get personally offensive with one another yet again.
 
It’s nothing to do with the political stances of the staff, which are far broader than you seem to realise, and everything to do with not wanting to have to deal with the constant, never-ending whining of a select minority of users who think it’s their god-given right to insult and degrade everyone who disagrees with them even slightly.
