yeah, why she’s doing it isn’t the issue i’m talking about. when the episode tries to tell us that the problem is that we tell her that she’s not good, when in reality the issue is that she’s playing it at inappropriate times, it totally muddles the message.
think of it like this. imagine if they just told her not to play it at the late hours of the night and not interrupting people’s lives doing it. she can do it all she wants, but just in consideration of others. bear in mind, I’m in no way under the impression that she’s doing this for her friends. she said in the episode that the instrument was her favorite thing ever, which is something i see as more of a direct attachment.
in reality ill admit it would likely have taken her several days of brooding to reach the point she was at, if not several weeks and i will admit pinkies stuborn refusal to be pulled out of her funk ‘was’ a tad out of charciter but it was nessiary for the moral, and for audience understanding…not just the main six but the audience had to see that when played properly the instraument actualy sounded ‘good’ and that it was indeed pinkie who was messing it up
cause lets face it, given the yak’s tendencies, admit it if you hadnt heard the master playing it at the end there youd have asumed it was ‘supposed’ to sound like it did when pinkie played it
Edited
true dat, but mood swings are always drastic in mlp…they only have a 22 minute runtime to work with ya know
And then they told her they didnt. And queue instant depression
but the reason shes ‘doing’ that is because they have given her the impresion they ‘enjoy’ it…sighs i swear people only hear what they want to…
her being bad isn’t the real problem, it’s how she’s playing it an inappropriate times and occasions. GOOD OR NOT, it eventually interrupt’s the other character’s daily activities. it’s just that the episode doesn’t tell you that.
you missed the point once again, no shes upset because she believed she was fucking good at it and her friends even at first told her she was, boosting her enjoyment even more as she believed that she was making others happy with it, then the truth comes out and not only can she no longer enjoy the instrument she had come to love but she comes to the realization that she sucks at it
ever seen those kids on American idol that suck soooo bad at singing and yet they seemed so sure of themselves…that’s the result of the same thing, there parants and freinds swearing to them that they were good but in fact they actually suck…the result is the same, a temper tantrum.
in pinkie pride, she made the crazy decisions for the sake of throwing parties, something that she does specifically to entertain others and specifically her friends.
here, she’s grumpy because she can’t blare an instrument at the late hours of the night.
‘there is a difference between being supportive, and pandering, to truly be supportive you must be willing to admit when someone you care about is making a mistake and thus help them to move past that mistake and to learn from it, if you think only of someones feelings in the moment and neglect the bigger picture they may be happy then but when the truth finally comes out, it will only hurt them more’
really i was utterly flabbergasted that so few people ‘got’ the message that this episode was talking about, its so obvious as to be maddening and yet people were so busy being like ‘omigurd pinkie is being ooc’ [which no she wasn’t, have you ‘seen’ pinkie pride…seriously when pinkie goes off on a tangent she forgets all logic] and honestly do you really think this is the first group of friends who has done something like this? no it isnt in fact this very same moral has appeared in almost ‘every’ fucking sit com ever made at one point, and its often played up in the exact same way….so congrats bronies, you missed one of the oldest damn morals in the book.
edit: I should note, that im not saying that the episode isn’t badly written im just saying its not badly written in the way people keep saying it is, its badly written cause its a stale concept that’s been overdone not because the message doesn’t work in the way its presented.

“Hey kids, it doesnt matter that youre ruining peoples lives, if you wanna do something, go for it!”
the lesson was pretty much that you’re allowed to do anything if you enjoy it
Edited
Thats not my opinion. The episode was for some reason written im a way where the mane 6 had COMPLETELY LEGITEMATE reasons to tell pinkie she had to stop, like it was literslly ruining thier lives, but the lesson is that they shouldnt tell her that because thats bad? What even was the lesson again?
like I said, the problem wasn’t that she was playing it bad, it’s that she was playing it abruptly at inappropreate times that disrupt her friend’s lives, but none of the characters, or the episode itself, think that’s actually the problem. it shows us one thing, and says something different, and it totally muddles up the message they’re trying to go for. i’d call that bad writing by default
Edited
points to your own status blurb then follows that by quoting the dude well that’s just, like, your opinion man.
Nope, just bad writing.
sections about this episode in particular often deviate from the original point, and glad to know my point is valid. i actually think it’s what breaks the episode
Which is a valid point of criticism, and not at all what OP is saying.

okay, the problem realistically isn’t that she’s playing the instrument, it’s that she’s playing it at inconvenient times and annoying all her friends with it. if they told her THAT was the problem, she’s find better times to play it. but instead they state the wrong problem just to spew the message that you should do what you enjoy in spite of how it could affect others or even yourself
-11/cucumber. i quit
That’s actually a pretty interesting take on the episode.
One could even argue the episode is more clever than it first seems.
Pinkie Pie loves playing the yovidaphone. Loves it to pieces. Her appreciation for yak culture probably played a part, but she’s obviously smitten with that thing even so.
Later on, we learn that the yovidaphone is literally meant to express joy. So yeah, considering that, it’s not surprising the Element of Laughter would be drawn to it.
What made her upset was what her friends told her. I know I would be pretty heartbroken if one of my closest friends told me point blank I would never improve at something I love not matter how much I try.
Except that’s exactly what it was. Pinkie herself said so.
First, I never said he was wrong. I was merely offering my perspective as as counterargument. That is how debates work, you know. Second, trying to understand a character’s motivations is not the same as making excuses.
And how come you are 100% right while I am 100% wrong? Is the word “interpretation” not in your dictionary? Look, you dislike the episode all you want, but you have no right to claim it is objectively and factually terrible.
Edited
So, we should ignore that Pinkie herself said she’s depressed because she feels she’ll never be any good at the yovidaphone?
