The dragons have such cool designs in the show already and it was fun drawing them older. I may try to use these puppets more in the future for other art pieces involving them.
You do realize this is FANART and not official, right? I’m not “ruining” anything, I’m just making my own version that probably at most a couple hundred people acknowledge right now with the minuscule following I have. It’s not like I will ever get hired by DHX Studio to help design any characters for this show (especially since it’s ending after S9 and the next one will be a reboot allegedly). I don’t care if you like it or not and you’re entitled to your own opinion, but saying that it’s “ruining great characters” when it’s not even official, and you could just draw your own version anyway, sounds pretty pathetic.
Spike’s okay here–he’s about what you’d expect of a dragon raised by ponies. And even if he looks harmless and useless, we all know better. Behind that chubby and jolly exterior is a bad-ass warrior when push comes to shove.
Not sure I like Ember and Smolder’s noses, though. That style of snout works fine for a male dragon like Garble, but on a female it’s kinda ugly.
Spike looks cute, but he comes off as being beyond harmless and certainly incapable of defending himself against… anyone here, who all looks much more imposing than him.
I also would figure he would actually look gangly and thin due to malnutrition.
Artist here.

>never had weight
so you want him to just float off and defy gravity

I don’t think they did horrible.
