It’s okay. The word “scared” still fits for this situation too. People used the term “scarred” for literal physical scars but sometimes people use it metaphorically for being scared or hurt emotionally.
Scarring doesn’t have to be physical. Scared is what you feel when the clown jumps out of the closet; scarred is what you are when you’re scared of closets for the rest of your life.
Since English isn’t my native language, I googled it quickly; scared seems to be the right term while scarred comes from the verb scar.
