@Background Pony #CFD0
Well now Fearing doesn’t make it into timed exclusives anymore, or to be fair he advertised a patreon exclsuive “edit” were he was aware that it would be more popular than the orginal.
But yes this is definetly breaking consumer trust, I for one will never again buy a ych from Fearing or commission this artist or the artist who had the need to insult me when I spoke up last time about this issue.
@Bnau
People were like that to Fearing as well. But the difference was that they did it when the issue was starting to become an issue. People didn’t like it but they were more willing to accept it because people were more complacent, that and they know that Fearing makes it into timed exclusives. There’s no scheduled release and it might not ever be one until someone leaks it, which isn’t fair to the artist. But on the same coin, it isn’t fair to the following audience when an artist decides to perma-lock works out of spite because that drastically destroys consumer trust.
So yeah, you’ll just have to wait and see what comes first. If you don’t bend, you break.
Where were you people when Fearingfun did the same and furterhmore where are the people now that defended Fearingfun? It’s the same only that this artist here is less popular.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to see finally some resitence to this predatory business practices but I also see that popularity is a big factor if it is accpeted or not.
Please speak up whenever you see something like this, not only if you already dislike the artist.
tbh when artists just beg about “Support me on Patreon huehuehue” I’m happy that leeching sites exist… Patreon yes but do it the right way, as example give early access to stuff or upload a lower resolution version to public and the higher res one to your Patreon. But for the love of god don’t do it like this artist…
I already support artists on Patreon, and have limited funds (so the $10.00 entry fee is a big strike right away), but this kind of ad just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The artist has the absolute right to set whatever price they like, and release or withhold whatever art they like. But all I’m walking away with is a feeling of annoyance about being torn between the limits of my budget and my desire to see a Celestia picture (my weakness!) that’s probably pretty good.
The ad space on this site is free from what I remember. I think a mod or something just needs to approve it before it will be hosted.
But I do agree with the majority of people that blatant paywall advertisements like this just turn most people away from anything you have to offer. It’s just a cash grab and nothing more. You aren’t doing this because you like your fans and want to give them something nice… you are doing this solely because you want to bait more people into paying you for whatever you might have. There’s not even enough here to go on either. Is this a safe image? Questionable? Explicit? No one knows unless they pay you the rather high amount of $10 for a single image that might be something they actually don’t like or want to see.
People don’t like these kinds of advertisements that are blatant paywalls and it will only hurt you as an artist if you keep doing business practices like this. It also shows in the ratings on this image as well. Not posted that long ago and already getting into the negatives.
@97blackbird
Thing is that I have patrons I support, but they have friendlier prices for the content they provide. I get you have bills to pay, there’s no insurance of whether or not the content provided is a timed-exclusive. Most creators will have a time period where their patrons will be allowed to have the content while others will be allowed to see it in a week or month (or year if you’re Vavacung).
It’s generally the content where no one is given a release date or window where people will resort to hiding artist tags. Either that or censored content with a blatant patreon plug.
@97blackbird
True, they need to live. But this is not a site for advertisement. It’s a site for hosting the fandom’s art. Want to advertise here? Rent the ad banner.
With all due respect, I will be hiding this. People don’t usually like Patreon ads, much less paywalled content without a timer.
This ^^
Tbh you’ll attract more people if you publicly release at least one main version, then make edits or something that are only accessible via Patreon. But honestly most of your supporters will pledge to you even without giving them Patreon Exclusive stuff.
Many people don’t have the money or can’t set up a Patreon account, so you lose out on those fans.

With all due respect, Artists are people who have bills and like a paycheck.
Ads are annoying, I agree, but what we get here doesn’t support them.
