In fact, when it comes to this very episode my problem is not even headcannon sinking. Not at all, because I’ve never cared to make a headcannon for Scootaloo, I often found her episodes boring, though they were never shit, which this is and it has nothing to do with no damn headcannon and simply that the writers rushed this out like a hot cake. Scootaloo’s parents were never ever there, seen, of even mentioned offhand in any of the previous episodes throughout the entire series, headcannon or not this leaves a gaping hole in the continuity and if anything will only create more headcannons just to justify the terrible concept of these characters.
@Pause
Wow, you are not reading a single word. I could less about a single one of my headcanons being smashed. I don’t claim nor care what choices they make while writing. I’m simply here to point out glaring flaws in the story, which has shown multiple times to have overarcing plots, season 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all have shown this to a freaken T. However this has nothing to do with an overarching, just simple continuity, such basic stuff that even shows as Johnny Bravo had.
I’m here to watch shows and as a writer myself I can’t stand by while such easy fixes are ignored. Meanwhile, all you seemed to be doing is name calling. Really it’s boring. You could at least attempt to tear holes into my argument, instead the only one whining here is you.
@Pause
Tell that to the headcannons that believed Smolder was Garble’s sister purely because she was a dragon only for the actual canon to confirm it in a later episode.
Seriously did everyone forget this headcannon was a thing and it became real?
Speculation is one of the biggest reason this fandom exist at its incredible size, heck any fandom is so huge. Headcannons are a constant reality in fandoms and mocking them simply make you look more stupid than the ones you are mocking.
@Background Pony #954B
Which is wierd, because there is no headcannon involved in “shining armor debacle”.
People were angry for not saying ANYTHING that he existed and because it retconned the whole “twilight sparkle never had a fiend” thing TWICE: first with her older brother being her BFF and with her freindship with cadence.
@Backgroundpony
I would have actually preferred that over this. An episode tackling child abuse is a rarity in TV and needs to be talked about more. Come on MLP where did you balls go. They were here in earlier episodes. You tackled Nazis, racist, and even death, now you decided to chicken out, MLP.
@Background Pony Number 17
Not really, explorers in the real world often take their children with them and raise them on adventures. Just look at the Crocodile Hunter family. Meanwhile, this has nothing to do with Destiny, simply the writers rushing out an idea since the series is nearly over.
This episode laid bare the Fridge Horror behind cutie marks and ponies’ “destiny”. Scootaloo’s parents were driven to be explorers, a lifestyle that made having children inadvisable. But they had Scootaloo anyway. Not that they should be blamed for that, for having kids is one of the main reasons couples get together, after all. But their “destiny” of being world travelers condemned Scootaloo to a “destiny” of growing up as a latchkey kid being handed off from one babysitter to another. And the terrifying thing is, the adult ponies were just fine with that. After all, each of them had their own “destiny” to fulfill, and apparently none of them (except for Aunt Holiday and Auntie Lofty, and them only part-time) included raising a good-as-orphaned foal.
@Pause
All they needed a name drop or maybe a background appearance, or heck use some actual background characters that appeared beforehand. This could have happened in previous episodes, taking like a grand total of five seconds of the plot and thing would have been fine. But no, we get ALL of it in the same episode. Terrible planning plain and simple. Seriously, I haven’t seen terrible writing like this since rereading through my first ever fanfic after years of ignoring.
@Pause
Aunts we have never seen or heard of until this very same episode(not counting the book because it wasn’t under the direct view of the show writers and even it doesn’t seem to acknowledge the existence of Scootaloo’s parents). Again terrible planning.
@GryphonStar5678
Except there are people looking after her in the form of her aunts. Not to mention Rainbow Dash eventually becomes a big sister figure.
But of course this fandom loves it Poor Scootaloo narrative.
@Pause
It was terrible planning plain and simple. Not the worse episode out there but certainly not the best planned episode either. Good episode, but a mess for the continuity.

What stupid is you thinking headcanons have any real impact or relevance towards the show.
What’s stupid is a random no name whining about non existent bad writing and planning because they didnt name drop them earlier.
What dumb is you forgetting this is not some overarching story but a lighthearted episodic slide of life series a majority of the time.
And all you’re proving is the negative side of the fandom with you’re entitlement like you’re owed something as unnecessary as Scootaloos parentage.
Actually, there was, they just went dead very fast when people realize how boring Shining is in the first few seasons.
Tell that to the headcannons that believed Smolder was Garble’s sister purely because she was a dragon only for the actual canon to confirm it in a later episode.

A mountain out of a molehill if i ever saw one that started the despicable habit of the fandom to take their headcanon as granted
Let me guess, you weren’t part of the fandom when Shining Armor was revealed, were you?
Headcanons dont mean a thing because they are headcanons. Not actual ones.
Couldn’t have said it better. It’s great that they now moved to Ponyville and all, but maybe they should’ve done that a few years earlier.
I would have actually preferred that over this. An episode tackling child abuse is a rarity in TV and needs to be talked about more. Come on MLP where did you balls go. They were here in earlier episodes. You tackled Nazis, racist, and even death, now you decided to chicken out, MLP.
my Problem would have already been solved when Scoots lived with her aunts. Not:
“Hi kid. You are still alive? Here some Food for the week. See you next week. Because we live outside of Ponyville”

Every headcannon is existence works on that logic so really calling it stupid is simply making yourself look stupid.

Gasps. We didnt hear about them until now So they must not exist.
That’s just facepalm stupid.
“Poor Scootaloo” was out the window in flight to the finish (Season 4 Episode 5) welcome to current year I guess.

Leaving their Young child home alone with noone to look after her. I did not found it, it was sledgedhammered into the face.
