Martinet was in the movie too though, (in several cameo roles) and we already discussed below why Martinet voicing Mario for a full movie just… Wouldn’t work.
And it’s funny, because Tara was in old Mario cartoons where Mario sounded different long before Martinet became the “official Mario game voice.” She didn’t mind that.
Martinet did a good job in his cameo roles, including The Mario Brothers’ father. I was not expecting to see their family in the movie. It’s nice they’re fleshing them out a bit.

Agreed… Many demanding him don’t understand this… Besides, they confirmed Martinet will voice many cameos in the movie, so he’s still in the movie.
I grew up on the old Mario cartoons, so I’m open to Mario sounding different. (and in fairness Pratt sounds close to the old obscure Mario animes, probably why Miyamoto chose him)
Honestly the goofy game voice, while iconic/amusing was never top tier prime voice acting. I remember some used to hate that voice too.

Look up clips of “Mario Teaches Typing 2,” it indeed feels weird seeing Martinet Mario speak sentences.

I’m much more used to a half-mute Mario so keeping Charles to say full coherent dialogue in a film would kind of weird me out.
