The right image is based on taking BM’s normal red and brightening it by the same amount that Twilight’s coat color is brightened - eg the same scheme used for all the mane 6 and other matched characters.
@Masem
Yeah, I guess. It’s hard to accuse them of lacking diversity when all the colors of the visible spectrum are represented (and not just by Rainbow Dash).
@Background Human
Also, on the skin color outrage, the multiple skin tones really downplay any sort of racial aspects. (And givent the flax Faust got from MS. magazine on how the “black” stallion guards were slaves to Celestia, I’m pretty sure that they were keeping “how the heck could these colors be mis-interpreted” in mind in designing the human side.
@Background Human
Yea, and Trixie too (just scanning down my pony color key, you’d also have Dr Whooves, Hoity Toity, Pokey Pierce, Dumb-bell, and Thunderlane (and a handful of one-shots) were they all EQG’d). Even some of the more “male” ponies start with coat colors that still would fall on the light color side.
Honestly, I’m a bit surprised there hasn’t been more outrage over the fact that all the Humanverse characters were given light skin tones. Or maybe there has and it just got drowned out by all the other outrage.
@GreenHair Carrot Top
If you look at some of the existing media with crowd scene, like >>323442 while the color is definitely weird, you’ll see no one has a skin tone that falls on a “dark” color - Big Mac and Luna are the only two of the main cast that really have coat colors that start on that side.

Don’t forget Cheerilee, as seen in >>350477.
