A human comes at you with a stick.

You use your magic to wrench the stick out of their… claws. I think.

You laugh, as their only means of attack is now 50 feet away from them.

Then you realize too late that the human has simply picked up another stick and has broken your horn off with it.

Venom spit is resource intensive. Making the venom takes a LOT of time and energy and once the stored up supply is depleted (very quickly), you are fucked over. Plus, the venom spit is usually a defensive measure, not an offense. It’s meant to blind and incapcitate the enemy so you can bugger off into safety.
If that were not the case, we would all spit venom.
Tools you can make in bunches and you can learn how to be more accurate very quickly AND you can increase your accuracy and range by using your spear with other tools.

Your point? Tool-Use is an intrinsic part of being human. We are natural tool-users. What’s the difference between killing with a claw that has grown on your body, or shaping a piece of wood or stone into a tool for killing and using it? None, other than the making of said tool requiring a good amount if intelligence.
