Except that part of the tradition has been long forgotten and even repressed to the point they’ve made an entirely different lore about these guys.
Spike would probably get a kick out of going around acting scary and threatening to leave birch switches to the parents of young colts and fillies if they’ve been naughty.
Aweeg.
It’s not even the black community that’s stirring up shit about it, which would be somewhat understandable, it’s just some dumb SJW’s that think the world is their Tumblr.
Not worth our attention, really.
Well, they kind of are magical helpers. I mean, walking across rooftops, going up and down chimneys, giving gifts to all the children in a single night.
About the controversy, I dunno. Feels like the drama about the Resident Evil 5 trailer or that guy that sued Herge because he didn’t like Kuifje in Africa. Much ado about nothing.
That’s what they always taught me as well, y’know, the soot thing. But I always thought of them to be different creatures, humanoid, but, like, almost magical helpers. I always thought they were awesome and I used to watch their detective series that comes on every year. Some people have to overanalyze everything.
If any of these uppity b*tches are reading this: I never associated Zwarte Piet with black people, especially not as a child, and I am not racist in the least. Find something else to moan about than a tradition that involves making children happy.
I always thought they were black because of the soot. Y’know, what with going up and down chimneys all the time. I’m not sure I understand what people are getting upset about. It’s always been a master-servant thing and Piet gets treated well.
I know people have complained. The majority of the people don’t, because the Zwarte Pieten have become their own entities. Most people don’t see them as black people, but more like odd looking elves. They don’t make the connection like they used to. It’s hard to explain.
Think of them as Mr. Popo people.

Zwarte Piet is kinda offensive when you think about it.
