Tenafly, I just saw the movie and not only did it feel like a Godzilla movie, but they outright NAILED Godzilla.
Background Pony #FCDE
Say whatever you want, but there is no way that this could be worse than “godzilla’s revenge” and “zilla”.

But in the other hand too much hype can be dangerous, like superman showed us this year…

I never said it is going to be good, I just said there are things that make it look like it will not be that bad, but you respond to me just like the ones saying it will be good makes you come off more like you are being very negative about it, you don’t respond to same to someone saying it will be good as you do to someone saying it may not be all bad, and that is what you are doing, I point out something that seem to be a good sign and you react to me like the ones saying “no it’s going to be good”.
I’m not going to call it good before seeing it, it’s why I got sick of it when a while back we had someone posted a Godzilla images just about every day over hype of things coming, it’s gets annoying to see always going “OMG THIS IS GOING TO BE THE BEST”.

“NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT PRAISING IT!”

Very first anon response:
“Let’s see here. Godzilla’s gonna look like he’s supposed to. He’s gonna breathe fire. He’s gonna act like he’s supposed to. It’s going back to the darker tone of the first film. It’s being written and directed by people who actually give two shits. Godzilla’s gonna fight two other monsters. How is this a bad thing?”

And I know that’s not the only one.

Basically, people, yourself included, jumped down my throat for being skeptical rather than immediately embracing another Americanization of a Japanese franchise.

NO ONE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT PRAISING IT!
This is why it seem you are disregarding it, someone point out a passable positive then you respond with, “will i’m not going to think it’s great for that” when no one said that thing makes it great.

I’m not “disregarding” the possible positives - I even stated in a previous post that the idea of returning to the darker roots of the franchise sounded promising. All I’m saying is that I’m not going to praise it until the film proves itself worthy of praise.

Once again, I was just pointing out some of the tings that make it look like it won’t be att that bad, don’t mean it is automatically good.
But when someone does point it out to you then you respond like nothing matter and you are being negative, I get that you are waiting to see it and are being skeptical about how good it will be but as you always respond to discount anything that may be a good sing it seem like you are just putting it down.
Be skeptical if you want but it seems you are going to a point that you are no longer skeptical but negative if you disregard even the smallest sign it my not be bad.

I AM AWARE OF THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE “EVIL DEAD” FRANCHISE. For fuck’s sake, I could tell you “behind-the-scenes” info until the cows come home, but you ENTIRELY MISSED THE POINT:

Regardless of where the source material is even coming from, EVEN IF A NEW/REVAMPING OF A FILM IN A FRANCHISE IS DONE BY THOSE WITH DEEP RESPECT FOR THE SOURCE MATERIAL, THAT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THE RESULTING FILM IS GOING TO BE ANY GOOD.

…and it takes a LOT of irritation for me to actually resort to using capslock.

Dude, Evil Dead started as a movie franchise, and an american one at that.

And I’m not saying anything about the greatness of this Godzilla, just pointing out some things that are positive about it, yes respect must be earned but it’s already shown a few things that for some have earned a little respect from them.

The differentiation between “version” and “remake” isn’t even the point. No matter what you want to call it, it is still the direct Americanization of a primarily Japanese franchise - something that has a very poor record of success.

As with the “Silent Hill” and “Evil Dead” movie adaptations, even if those behind it have a deep respect for the material, and even if they put painstaking effort into the visuals, that does not guarantee that the resulting effort is going to be any good. All I have said from the beginning is that, given the many failures that have resulted from doing so, that I’m going to remain skeptical about the quality of the 2014 Godzilla film until I actually see it.

I honestly do not understand why anyone is arguing the “greatness” of something that isn’t even out yet. Respect is something that must be earned, not just given freely.

Actully no, being a version of it means it can be anything from the story with a number of changes but still with a number of things the same, most changes then you can have to be a remake as it won’t count as a remake if you do to much different.
The Magnificent Seven has a lot like Seven Samurai as it’s based on it, so it can be called a version of it, and another version of Seven Samurai is the anime Samurai 7, it’s not a remake of it but has more things like Seven Samurai then The Magnificent Seven does.

…are you guys seriously trying to claim that movies inspired thematically by other movies are “remakes” of those movies?

I do not understand this severe butthurt over not falling and worshipping at the toes of something that isn’t even out yet to judge.

Also, the Ringu remakes were complete shit.

I don’t think A Bug’s Life and Star Wars are so much adaptations of Seven Samurai and The Hidden Fortress, respectively, as they take some ideas from those movies (and others) but use them with a different storyline.

Let’s see here. In addition to what Nightjack said:

Bug’s Life (Seven Samurai)
Star Wars: A New Hope (Hidden Fortress)
The Lion King (Kimba the White Lion)
Power Rangers franchise (Super Sentai)

In fact, lots of films and entertainment are influenced by the works of Akira Kurosawa and Osamu Tezuka.
