I guess that’s what I meant- they were actually lying and scamming in this one, playing a more traditional villain role. What I liked was how rather than just being typical MLP antagonists, they used a legitimate argument to justify what they were doing, and cleverly used Applejack’s compassion against her. I think a trait of any good villain is that they have a way to justify their motivations.

Also there were serious consequences to Applejack’s mistake, moreso than the other key episodes. As in, Granny Smith was almost killed, and the Flim Flam Brothers actually got away with a lot of the cash.

I actually found the brothers less sinister in this. They made their intentions clear that they wanted to run the apples out of business in their first episode. The worst they did here was lie about the effects of their tonic.

Granted, I actually liked them here than in the other one. This was an actual scam, a flim flam, unlike their first appearance which was mostly machine VS non-machine with no real deceit at all. They felt more in-element here to me.

I liked this episode a lot actually. I loved the song, and I also thought it gave Applejack’s character a more depth than the other rainbow key episodes gave theirs. It portrayed her as having a very human set of flaws. It also portrayed the Flim Flam Brothers as a little more sinister, which is good. I think this is my second favorite of the rainbow key episodes

Meanwhile, about the parasprites: relax. They’re dead, and being used to decorate hats (I checked, there’s more than one hat decorated like that).

A old pony who has been around since the founding of Ponyville did not break every bone in her body when her versatile granddaughter forcibly yanked her from a great height upwards.

If you think the entire setup isn’t running off of cartoon logic, or really, almost every episode of this show, then you’re just being silly.
