Just recently watched the first few episodes.
5 songs total with THAT S7 premier?
Is it just me, or are they spinning their wheels more blatently this season? The trailer we saw was literally just Twilight’s anxiety fanfiction that didn’t even amount to anything.(Reminds me when they originally psyched us out with Tirek’s trailer showing him being seriously intimidating, instead of a meathead textbook badguy like he was in every other scene).
I just can’t help but feel that they are holding back the show a ton from progressing with more involved story and character arcs because they are waiting on the movie to ‘blow us away’. I’m not saying S7 is going to be all bad, I mean, S6 had Gauntlet of Fire, and this season has more of Trixie being Trixie as well as being the Joseph Joestar to Starlight’s Ceasar Zeppeli. I’m just saying its worrisome for the current episode quality overall if they are simply waiting one more season for the show to not have the “Starlight and friends show” as the main attraction, with the Mane 6 only for the side episodes.
Also, can we get Luna to fact-check Celestia’s anxieties (after the fact of course) of sending her to Ponyville? Season 3’s premier established Luna knew all too well Celestia was RELYING on Twilight’s hyper dependency to be a big problem for her plan to make her a princess, something Luna was totally against. That one scene shows how much Celestia hides her true intentions from the face she shows Twilight. (not to mention Celestia’s spiel about waiting on sending Twilight to Ponyville doesn’t really match with the whole scenario being used for her to be sent there at the right place so Luna could be turned back from Nightmare Moon. Retcon or unreliable/untrustworthy narrator scenario?)
The second episode wasn’t too bad, even though it dragged on in places. Basically, Trixie’s magic is pretty potent with real instruction, and Starlight being a repressed nutbar like Twilight, instead of verbally sparring with what remains of her S5 wit, isn’t going to work out for her with her anger filled past. Heck it barely works for Twilight at all.
Also, I’m pretty sure Trixie throwing the l-word so intimately, with that speech she gave Starlight, was just a hop, skip and a jump from a proposal speech. Are we positive they’re not already dating? Like, they probably aren’t, I’m not much of a shipper, but I can’t rule it out entirely.
