@LightningBolt
LightninBolt, did you read my comment?
Getting a relationship, is not a bad thing, but a badly written romance
is and can be really damaging to a work.
In other words, I just stated I critique TimberTwi for being a
badly written romance, that undermines the movie it’s in.
I mean, do you
really claim a it’s good writing Twilight is at one moment, completelly traumatized, and even self loathing, and then, the second she meets Timber, Sci-Twi imidatelly switches to a stereotypical schoolgirl in love, that is impressed by
anything Timber does or says? Is that even remotelly realistic.
And this happens during the movie multiple times.
(And that’s not even mentioning the whole romance is just
a love at first sight - great work from the writters at having a “well written” and “not-stereotypical”, “not-cliche” romance XD. Yes, that’s literally the first time Timber and Twilight make eye contact, or interract in
any way - and they are immediately smitten with each other)
And the worst part? It doesn’t even
do anything in the long run (in terms of Sci-Twi character arc) - in other scenes, Sci-Twi is getting worse, and worse.
The Timber x Sci-Twi romance has actually no impact on Twilight overcoming her issues. And doesn’t at all influence the Gloriosa storyline. In many ways, it’s nearly detached from the rest of the movie.
The TimberTwi romance, I think, could be actually sincerelly argued to be a textbook case of a
Romantic Plot Tumor . In fact, on the same page tv tropes argues it can be:
Twilight x Timber romance in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Legend of Everfree it only helps Twilight’s emotional problems very temporarily, and has no role in Twilight overcoming her fears, yet takes a visible part of the movie’s running time.
And not only Timber get’s hate because the TimberTwi romance - multiple people - because of how the mood swing scenes masivelly undermine Twilight tragedy, by having her just forget about her issues completely and imidatelly when with Timber - causes many people think Sci-Twi is just whinny and selfish in Legend of Everfree, not tragic. And because of this, a visible number of people actualy hate Sci-Twi :(
To sum up, I repeat, no ‘getting a relationship’ isn’t a bad thing, but a badly written romance is a bad thing, that can damage a story. I mean Lauren Faust herself mentioned this.
(And I didn’t even mention all of the issues this romance has…)
(But I’m curious LightningBolt, do you really think TimberTwi is a ‘well written’ romance? Or just like it?)
