Really?

How about this, Sunburst, Starlight and Trixie are just friends.

Lyra and Bon Bon are just friends.

And Rarity and Applejack are just friends.

Better?

Pretty sure that Starlight is also closer to Twilight than she is to Sunburst, probably.

In any case, talking about “this ship is canon or non-canon because I said so” is an exercise in futility anyway, unless it’s as extreme in the teasing as LyraBon.

None of this matters.

What I find stupid (no offense.) is when people are more willing to claim their lesbian ship is canon and get upset when they are told just how wrong they are… But yet, despite complaining about it, they do the exact same thing to people who claim they’re straight ship is canon.

I find it stupid and hypocritical….

Hey if people thinking being gay’s an insult, well sucks to be them, cause there be dem gays in the fandom.

And claiming a ship is wrong just because they don’t kiss isn’t the same as saying the ship doesn’t exist. I mean I could just as easily say Applejack’s parent are in no way dead and anyone who thinks that is ‘wrong’ for thinking so.

And buddy you in a shipping war, the most flammable kind of internet discussion XD

Good point(s).

But because no one confirmed anything, and the guy who makes the EqG specials just gave a runaround answer that might as well have been “Uh, buy our toys?”.

I’m not joking, he HAS said the buy our toys and similar lines before… He didn’t use the toys in his reply to the question about whether or not the ship was Canon..

If anything, he was very evasive like “I should have made sure the message about friendship went through in a way that WOULDN’T start a major controversy.”. I can imagine him actually saying/thinking that.

The point is, not confirmed, neither canon nor not Canon.

Because Shippers gonna ship

It leans heavily on the fandom’s idea that they are dead, basically that it’s resting on the fandom’s interpretation to shore up any weaknesses the episode in itself has. Basically that if you watched this episode in a vaccuum (In that you had no idea about the fan’s thoughts and feeling on their parents and not literally in a place with no matter in it) then the episode more than likely wouldn’t be as great as the fandom makes it out to be, that taken as a standalone piece it’s not as strong as the surrounding supports that trust it up, if that makes any sense.

No, it leans lightly on them being Canon Dead because it’s been a settled issued since Apple Family Reunion regardless of how often anyone tries to argue about it because they have a wackadoo headcanon or whatever.

It’s true that Perfect Pear wouldn’t have had nearly the same emotional impact to someone unfamiliar with the show, but… so what? It still told a bittersweet and emotionally moving story about loss and redemption either way, being a fan and knowing how important it all really is was just bonus content for subscribers.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled unpopular opinions.

The reason why I think Chrysalis should get redeemed is because of the following redemption(s):

In both IDW Comics Transformers and Transformers: Prime, Megatron actually got redeemed.

And Chrysalis and IDW/Prime Megatron have a lot in common.

They’re both Tyrants who believe their way is the only way for their people (or changelings in Chrysalis’ case), they lead their troops into battle, they have a major rivalry with multiple characters, they both want to rule the world, they both are somehow redeemable, once betrayed they go crazy (Chrysalis literally created clones she couldn’t even control, while Megs goes on rampages), they hardly ever give up, and they both appeared in both IDW and cartoons… Which literally aired on the exact same channel.

With that in mind, I honestly want to see Chrysalis get reformed in the style of Transformers: Prime Megatron (mainly because that’s the only redeemed Megs I know the reason behind.) in which some outside force (possibly Tirek or Sombra) take control of Chrysalis’ body… And through a set of events, the outside force is kicked out of Chrysalis, she realizes what she had done to the ponies, she becomes an ally, and she is allowed to live among her fellow Changelings.

I’m not denying the emotional reaction more so that it’s the episode in and of itself that delivers it, which it doesn’t. It’s more about judging the art by itself rather than by its surroundings. It’s like saying The Last Jedi is great because it subverted your expectations and that’s good therefore The Last Jedi has to be good, the art in and of itself isn’t being evaluated but more how it fits into someone else’s ideas and then being justified for it. And if you thought I wasn’t going to bring TLJ into this then I guess I subverted your expectations. ’P

If anything, Rarijack actually had stronger teasing, but I feel that was on the artists, not the storyboard writers, head.
Yeah, I still don’t get the “they’re totally dating” impression from Rarity and Applejack in that special. Read their dialog devoid of the images and it’s really nothing more than the usual friendly apology.

TLJ was great because it was a great movie, people would have eaten it up with a Porg-shaped spoon in 1977 just like they did with the first movie which threw us into the middle of a well-established story and setting and expected audiences to be grown up enough to follow along anyway; people are only soiling themselves and screeching about it because they had 40 years of fandom faffery built up in their heads.

Fan knowledge of the Apple Family was completely unnecessary to a story about kids finding out about the lives of their long-gone parents and why their just-returned grandfather is so miserable over it.

Well good thing the actual words spoken only constitutes about 7% of what is actually communicated between people

Okay going to focus on the actual point there cause I just spent the last twenty minutes writing all the ways your wrong about TLJ but I massively digressed.

Firstly Star Wars (Episode IV) gave you all the pieces of information you needed. In Media Res is a well establish form of story telling. Two, the tag line Episode IV only came out in 1980, three years after the movie first came out and only because Lucas decided to want to try and tell a prequel saga later on once the massive success of Star Wars became apparent.

As to the next point, having continuity between media installments and relying on fan interpenetration are two different things. The former you are generally meant to have known, the other not so much. You don’t go to see Episode 8 of something if you have no idea what the other 7 parts were (Just look a China for that proof). Meanwhile you not knowing anything at all about the Apple siblings parents shouldn’t affect how you view the episode but it does. The Apple Parents aren’t particularly well developed characters, it relies heavily on the Romeo and Juliet subplot and uses the fandom’s knowledge that they are dead in order to sell the emotions it’s going for.

Here’s what I’m trying to get at. If someone 50 years from now viewed the episode, having no real contact with the fandom or it’s ideas, would that hypothetical person really say it’s as good as the fandom claims it is?

And as for the 7% thing I was referring to the whole 7% of personal communication is related through actual spoke word, the rest is conveyed by body language and tone.
