Everyone yesterday: “What nonsense for Trump to suggest that removing Confederate statues would lead to people wanting to remove statues of George Washington!”

Chicago pastor, today: ““Here, hold my beer[](http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/08/16/jackson-washington-park-protest-presidents-slave-owners/)

A Chicago pastor has asked the Emanuel administration to remove the names of two presidents who owned slaves from parks on the South Side, saying the city should not honor slave owners in black communities.
A bronze statue of George Washington on horseback stands at the corner of 51st and King Drive, at the northwest entrance to Washington Park.
Bishop James Dukes, pastor of Liberation Christian Center, said he wants the statue gone, and he wants George Washington’s name removed from the park.
“When I see that, I see a person who fought for the liberties, and I see people that fought for the justice and freedom of white America, because at that moment, we were still chattel slavery, and was three-fifths of humans,” he said. “Some people out here ask me, say ‘Well, you know, he taught his slaves to read.’ That’s almost sad; the equivalent of someone who kidnaps you, that you gave them something to eat.”
Dukes said, even though Washington was the nation’s first president and led the American army in the Revolutionary War, he’s no hero to the black community.
“There’s no way plausible that we would even think that they would erect a Malcolm X statue in Mount Greenwood, Lincoln Park, or any of that. Not that say Malcolm X was a bad guy; they just would not go for it,” he said. “Native Americans would not even think about putting up a Custer statue, because of the atrocities that he plagued upon Native Americans. And for them to say to us ‘just accept it’ is actually insulting.”

I was thinking more like a roman legionary system where they protect innocent bystanders from getting hurt, and if they aren’t afraid to throw down in self defense, face against ANTIFA and the neo-nazis together. Consisting of minorities and white people the minorities as a group will face down ANTIFA and the white people Neo-Nazis. This way we can show that we CAN work together despite our differences both physical and ideological. Of course the left wing will face off against ANTIFA and the right wing against Neo-Nazis.
100 people will consist a Century, 1000 a legion. Each century will have their own defacto Centurion that they vote for. The legates will be voted on by the centurions. The head of all the chapters will be a consul. With questors, aediles, and pro-consuls below them who act as a counsel and are voted in by everyone consisting of the organization.
Small groups of 10 people will be a contubernium and their job is to watch each others back during any fighting if they have to fight in self defense. Each contubernium can vote for their captain which answers to the Centurion for orders or for anything they might need like funding or personal help if need be.

Chapters consisting of 1000 people? Sounds like the Codex Astartes. Perhaps they have a maneuver called “Steel rain” where they create traffic jams to deter antifa and neo-Nazis from arriving into a town

I feel like we can solve a lot more problems if everyone just realises that extremists of anything are shit and that they do not represent the group as a whole.

I have an idea…..remember that senate idea I described earlier? What if we apply that as a counterprotest organization against both antifa and neo Nazis? Think of it like chapters of an organization across the nation. If we could gather at LEAST 1000 people strong chapters that consist of moderate left and right wing individuals we could nip this in the bud early! ESPECIALLY if it gained national news attention!

Actually, i think it were identity politics themselves that led to most racial/sexual/gender problems being solved. No matter what you say about, for example, Martin Luther King Jr being a moderate, he used identity politics. He just used it wisely.
Even then, the question of “identity”, at least in its ideal form, is still connected to the notion of an individual. Blacks can be useful people to society, they can be individuals, just like the whites that discriminated them before. Hence, why they dislike being lumped in a collective label of “savage”, “mentally inferior”, or “thug”.
To me, the term “collectivism” makes little to no sense, unless we live in an orwellian dystopia. There will always be individuals within a group, country, family, religion, or ideology that strain from the majority’s opinion. And even then, it’s within an individual’s right to associate him or herself with a group.
The only problem here is that idpol is being pushed in situations where it isn’t necessary, or being combined with villainization of a specific group. Take out these two problems and encourage people to talk more, shout less, and then it’s all probably solved.

Retired Ass
I said that it was going, not that it was gone. Yes there were setbacks and problems, yes there were stupidities like DADT in the US and probably similar things I can’t think of over here, but the trend was towards improvement and reduction of racial and social issues of that nature.

This was because the emphasis was placed on being an individual as part of the social whole, rather than on strictly defined “identity” lines.

Identity politics is a mugs game. It creates the us vs them and all else be damned attitudes that are so pervasive now and that were - slowly - being eradicated in the 90s.

The turning point was probably the mid 2000s, but it really picked up during Occupy, when the movement was co-opted - and effectively neutered - by the sort of collectivist identity politics that is now becoming the norm. Society and the individual are subsumed to blocks of “identity” that have little bearing to reality.

In the 90s I had hope that my children - if I’d had any - would inherit a world in which the politics of hate were finally being wiped away. Instead we have a world that seizes every chance to declare groups as absolute evil and that justifies interpersonal violence for even the most petty reasons. That the outcome is destructive riots shouldn’t be a surprise.

We went from a world in which wars were reducing in scope, terrorists were handing over their weapons to seek peace and the people were uniting to seek a better society for themselves and their children, to a world where violence is the first resort of political debate and those same children are being indoctrinated to hate themselves because they aren’t whatever flavour of identity is in vogue this week.

Call me delusional if you want, I don’t give a flying fuck. You can keep your hellpit world and its obsession with hate. I want my world back. The world that may not have been even remotely perfect, but was getting better every day.

It doesn’t directly target minorities, but police are more likely to be biased against minorities. Whites are just as likely to use drugs as blacks, yet blacks yet locked up in prison more often for drug offences than whites.
