I’ve been watching AI art at least since 2 or more years. This concept has exploded in 2022 and, since then, people have decided to monetize this type of content in exploitable ways, like in DeviantArt. At first it updated their website saying that literally all arts made by users are automatically labeled as not authorized for use in AI datasets, but that didn’t seem to last very long, because even the most popular arts in the popular section use AI tools.
I’ve criticized it a little bit back in 2022, but I always got the same arguments. “It will get better overtime”, but apparently AI art seems to keep having an issues with hands, fingernails and even the position of the elbows. “AI art is like Photoshop”, but as far as I know Photoshop doesn’t automatically make you create art, it’s just a tool. I remember I caught a friend making AI art and then calling himself “artist”, but the last time I told them that’s not true, he answered “Who got the proxxies?”. It seems like a very out-of-pocket question, so I didn’t want to make a comment about it.
One day, after watching another AI art in DeviantArt, I noticed that there were a couple of comments criticizing the perspective and the anatomy of the art, so I wanted to join and, among other things, I said “calling yourself an artist by using AI is like calling yourself a pro for using aimbot in a FPS game”.
In less than an hour, I’m blocked.
This is not the first time I’ve criticized AI art. I talked about how Derpibooru shouldn’t give so much priority to AI art. A couple of days later, the topic has been locked. And, while Derpibooru has filters to easily avoid AI art, I don’t understand why this is a defensible idea not only in DeviantArt, but in everywhere. I thought with the advance in technology, AI would be used for mathematical purposes in convinient and practical ways. I’m not a math guy, so I can picture this technology to make coding much easier, since last time I practised coding, it was a huge mess and I got stressed. But no, it’s just to implement it to the least appropiate field for AI.
Why? Why do people defend this?
