Derpibooru is a large, highly active site. Each day, we average between six hundred and a thousand new images uploaded to the site, three thousand new comments being posted, and one hundred new users joining the site.
To help keep the site running smoothly, Derpibooru is moderated by a small team of approximately twenty five active volunteers. We are always looking for more volunteers who are willing to help us manage the site as it continues to grow and expand.
Managing the site is a fairly laid-back and relaxed affair. It can be fun and rewarding at times, although it may get a bit stressful sometimes as well. There are no minimum time requirements or quotas to fulfill. Instead, you just help out when you can. We have a great team that works well together, and is always willing to help each other out.
The main requirements for being joining our staff are that you’re active on the site, have a demonstrated history of being able to follow the site’s rules, are able to maintain a friendly and objective demeanor, and are able to work well on a team.
New staff always start off as Site Assistants. Since managing a site this size can be overwhelming to some, new Site Assistants typically start off with one or two roles, such as merging duplicate images, verifying user links, and/or moderating comments. Once you get used to how things work, additional permissions can be assigned to you, allowing you take on additional roles on the site if you’d so like to.
Additionally, it is mandatory that all site staff be in the moderation IRC channel when performing any staff-related duties, no matter how small or routine they may be. Communication is very important amongst staff, and regular failure to be in the IRC channel while modding may be grounds for dismissal.
