Thread Starter - Artists you miss.

I always maintained the notion that metawise season premiere Starlight is a Tirek-lite or a more refined Tirek depending on the viewpoint.

The comparison breaks down the later you go.

I believe it was meant to be the finale of the show like season 3 and 5’s finales hence the happy happy joy joy feel-good song montages.

Tirek was a powerful villain but he was a boring one. All he wanted was power. I think if they really want to top Tirek, the show will create more interesting villains like Discord or even Trixie. Preferable something that cannot be beaten by force or power. The problem is, the show doesn’t want to develop the villains. They reform them the moment they get interesting.

I hope they never reform Chrysalis and she continues to screw with the ponies whenever she gets the chance.

i Vastly prefer the S5 opener and S6 finale over the S4 finale if you want an episode where the mane 6 are disrespected as people bitch about the S6 one look at that where they are LITERALLY just basically objects to give Twilight power to beat Tirek.

You people say the show is getting stale?

Possibly, but for different reasons, it isn’t characters, well, it is partially. But they are making a movie as well right now, and they won’t pay too much attention to the show, allowing crap like Flurry Heart to fall through the cracks.

It’s like SpongeBob, during the production of its second movie, it halted the production of its series to work on what was a successful movie.

It is also the case for the video game NASCAR Heat 2, where the predecessor was horrible. So the bar was set low, but when screenshots for the game came out, and gameplay was seen, the bar was high.

Maybe this is what MLP was doing: S1 - S4 were raising the bar, with controversy along the way, then purposely dropped the bar for S5 - S7 so they could raise the bar AGAIN for the movie.

I agree that the fight between Twilight and Tirek is probably a tough act to follow. But I also remember that the most striking thing about it was that Twilight, even with all the power of Equstria’s princesses at her disposal, couldn’t beat Tirek in a fight. For all the earth cracking, mountain shattering spectacle, her battle ended up mainly being a (cool, I’ll admit, but) flashy waste of time. The true finale was the result of friendship and harmony (and rainbows of course).

And I bring that up because, really, that has not really changed in other episodes and finales. Whether battling sirens in a human world, beam fighting a time traveling unicorn in the past, or facing changelings in a kingdom that absorbs (most) magic, showy battles of power usually end with the deciding factor being a much quieter moment. Twilight showing Starlight the empty wasteland her actions will bring about. Sunset Shimmer joining the girls who became her friends (or asking one to join her). A changeling learning to share love for the first time.

So I guess I don’t really think anything has killed the show. Flashy shows of force solving problems is not what this show is about, and really shouldn’t be either.

I liked it, but I think it’s been heavily overblown.

Like, I like Tirek, but infinitely more so before he became a giant monster. I wish he’d stayed raspy and old the whole episode.

Go Watch Helluva Boss
Think about it, “Twilight’s Kingdom” set the bar pretty damn high.

Perhaps impossibly high…and that’s why the show feels staler now: it’s a tough act to follow.
