I’m not sure I can completely hear the resemblance, but FF and Mana are both Square titles so I suppose that could link them.

If you can emulate PSX games or have some spare cash lying around, I’d heartily recommend picking up a copy of the game. It’s got some flaws, but man if the rest of the game didn’t make up for them to me.
