It might not be a safety thing, it might be that they felt he didn’t fit in the slightly (and for the record, I did say slightly.) more realistic EqG world. Sci-Twi doesn’t have Owlowicious either, and while an owl may not be a perfect pet, it’s certainly more practical than a full-sized gator.

Imo she could keep small lizard that looks like a gummy. Hasbro doesnt need to confirm its a actually aligator.  
If not them making real aligator for pink colored human in cartoon is thinking that kids will have wrong ideas just proves how fucked up this generation is - of both kids and industry.
 
1998 - cartoons about guns, explosions, lasers and death are very common  
2017 - everything is happy, cartoon violence and animated aligators are a no-no in human looking world, it may damage our poor childrens mind

Sigh, I am very glad that I was born 25 years ago.

Gummy being a stuffed animal in this universe makes sense kinda, not the safest idea to promote keeping a baby alligator that will one day grow up and be difficult to handle
 
Although it kinda makes Pinkie somehow look even more autistic (and the “Crusader Movie Club” short where the CMC ‘rescued’ Gummy was kinda ridiculous)

Fair enough, but having them standing side by side still makes those differences stand out.

First: Its a animation style to show Spike as a more important character than Winona.  
He have more unique design with lizard eyes, standing out like something not from this world. It was original meant just for Spike transformation from a dragon but they keep it post Rainbow Rocks.  
And about Winona - she is just a dog and her eyes look like dog eyes IMO.  
 
Second: Reminder that Spike learn to talk via magic and Winona didn’t.

It’s not just the colors, it’s how they’re drawn. Spike has a much bigger head relative to his body and bigger eyes relative to his head. Winona’s eyes are also kinda beady while Spike’s are the same as dragon Spike’s, which are closer to human/pony eyes.
 
And yes, Spike still has a number of distinctly canine mannerisms, but he does display a greater degree of humanization than the other pets.

Nah. Spike is still very much prone to behave like a dog. He just has the bonus of people being capable of understanding his actions.
 
And we’ve seen a blue dog in the background before, so animals in this world can still come in fantastic colors.

Does anyone else think having Winona and dog Spike in the same shot makes things kinda weird? I mean they don’t really even look like they belong in the same show, plus one’s a talking dog who acts like a person, and one’s a normal dog who acts like a dog.
