“Celebration of the Lizard” by The Doors might be one of the most baffling rock epics ever. It was composed as a 17-minute long series of poems, some sung, some spoken-verse, that have been performed live a handful of times but were never recorded and released in full on one of their albums because it was too long. The entire text was included on the inside cover of their album Waiting for the Sun, as well as a small segment of it, “Not to Touch the Earth,” included on the album. The only full recordings of it were included on their 1970 album Absolutely Live and the posthumous 2003 album Legacy: The Absolute Best.

Third wave ska is more of a mix of punk and jazz.

Shit like Tik Tik now is terrible but will get worse once music gets oriented towards shit like that

Can I just say that Portugal. The Man may be one of the stupidest band names I’ve heard in recent years?

No, seriously, have we reached the point in music where the only way of having an original band name is to throw random words and punctuation together and hope it comes out coherent?

Trust me, I’m coming from a background of listening to bands like Butthole Surfers. I’ve seen my share of dumb band names, and this is possibly one of the dumbest. For one thing, Portugal isn’t a man, it’s a country. And seriously, what’s with the period in the name?
 
And at least Cage the Elephant is a tangible phrase that actually means something.

I wasn’t saying that Cage The Elephant was a bad band name, just that it’s somehow popular for band names to be “Noun The Noun” or something similar.

Though technically, jam band Donna the Buffalo has been doing this for even earlier.
 
Fun fact: Their band name was originally Dawn of the Buffalo, but it kept getting misheard. It’s also come to the point where everyone thinks that co-lead singer Tara Nevins is actually named Donna, which she isn’t.

The method of writing down all the times you and your friends say “That would make a good band name”, and using those should still be viable.
 
My circle of friends has yielded such gems as “Punchclock Samurai” and “Shark Head Cornucopia”.
