Same, I’m trying to remain skeptic and calm down with my paranoia on all the bog gov and regulations, but it’s happening. There’s no such thing as a freemason, secret illuminati or any of this bullshit, but ‘new world order’ is really the only term that comes in my mind. Some call it globalism, others crony capitalism, if governments kneel before the decisions of a few instead of securing their rights, their constitutions, it’s not gonna work.
 
Sure, we will build and create alternative the same day these are endangered, but we shouldn’t have to, it’s our right. Copyright also gives us the right to create and share, fair use exist since over a century and must be secured.

It is true that the main criticism of the draft is the possible encryption part. Still though, It’s just a draft and could change and is still in early stages, So lord knows what will happen and considering it’s an election year, It’s unknown if congress would want to vote on anything 230 related.

With Trump getting acquitted, Congress has basically told him that he can do anything he wants without getting in trouble, And that means very likely MASSIVE INTERNET CENSORSHIP!😖

Isn’t it incredible that today, even if you paid for Adobe Photoshop CS3 in 2009 a thousand dollars to start a legit job, you can no longer activate it. Adobe shut down the servers.
 
What you invest in legal software - that works marvelously well for a decade and still now - is no longer usable, you have to use a crack for activating it.
 
What kind of legal battle could start. It is not immoral at this point to rely on piracy and warez, even on a professional scale instead of upgrading to an abomination like Creative Cloud.

My opinion since I reinstalled CS3 mostly for fun seeing how it works on this PC… just a thing for people out there who still think ALL cracks or warez or hacking tools are necessarily evil, not all hackers want you harm. Some want to help you. Trust hackers more than corporations, especially on secu and privacy.
 
You wanna download or run something for windows that ends in .exe ? Still have a doubt? Before you run, submit it to Virustotal Really the only AV you will ever need if you tend to download things from doubtful sources (I recall even Sourceforge brought some shit once.)
 
if it have all kapersky/norton/eset and co red, you can delete it right now. If not, it happens some AVs can find false positives. If you made a backup of your system yesterday you can take the risk otherwise, it’s like in a scientific consensus. when all say “green” and one say “red” it’s not the majority that wins. you check why one is telling you there’s a risk. if the community says it’s a false positive, you can assume it happens, if it’s not one, you have probably one kind of shit that is not yet known by all antiviruses, and one simply analyzed how the software behaves that can be malicious.
 
Anyways keep in mind, all security can be defeated, from you to be forced to crack a software you own legally in order to use it (preventing you from using it by activation denial is theft and immoral) or against you, never thing the antivirus you have will protect you from any attack or malware or anything.
 
Instead of buying an antivirus every year, buy an external hard drive and back-up.

I like older tech too. I never got to experience the 80s or 90s, so I only caught the tail end of VHS, Walkman, Cassette tapes, laptops that weighed the same as a brick, etc. But I always wished I could have experienced the more retro era.

yeah same, we all know how computer works and what hardware we should pick to achieve peak performance but just imagining how bigger machines used to work in the 70-80’s like IBM mainframes running OS/360, knowing about IPL to load the hardware before booting the OS, or really using an UNIX monster. Kind of chatted with old guys who did work with those, that’s where people like Stallman, Knuth, or Torvalds got their idea because the hardware was limited and it forced them to use every single byte available.
 
Now the logic for anything is “how much ram will i need to run a browser? …all of it!”

Yeah, in terms of modern tech, I’m more interested in next generation aircraft and emeging tech, especially in the areas of military application, where most of the “exotic” stuff gets developed.

I love technology, I think it’s an art, it can be a passion but it must be remain under control.
 
One thing I’ve been exploring yesterday… is the amount of webcams, IP cameras like the wifi kind you buy 20$ on Aliexpress. There’s no security on these and people generally leave a simple default password on them.
 
It’s good to have a camera when you’re not there, to look at what’s going home, I considered leaving an old laptop/tabletPC with a webcam or two to check on my cat, but with security. At least the login credentials to the machine, and a secured, SSL connection.
 
I’ve seen a lot of shit just by checking the IP log access to my site out of curiosity. Now I want to contact those people by any mean, letting them know they are watched, or can be watched. It’s not even hacking since the cameras are literally an IP + a few generic lines depending of the model that acts either as a video stream server (viewable on VLC) or other more simple things.  
So yeah I’ve seen some shit, at least this one seems to have a public utility I guess
 
IoT is not good technology, it’s only opening doors for mass surveillance, datamining and at this point, with the millions of these connected gadgets, I could totally imagine a system like Person of Interest’s “Samaritan” gathering every stream from every non-secured webcam like this. Anyone could see where you are.
 
At least, every municipal police’s camera, I hope, are not connected on the internet. But these override this gap.
 

 
So yeah. people MUST be informed. When they say «I have nothing to hide», even administrations and others, it’s for people around them who don’t want to be filmed or take part in their voluntarism in participating a surveillance program they are consenting, but not everyone.
 
Also in administration, dumb accountant with a Windows 10/Office 360 using some cloud shit to transfer info on his tablet.  
I object as this is not the hardware of the company that’s secured and all.
