Not a fan of her myself, didn’t really like the idea of this “Daybreaker” being included.

Not a fan of this ep. Evil Celestia looked cool. That’s the only small positive thing I can say about this.

Yeah.

You know, I was going to type out a big, long, detailed discussion of things I liked about this episode, but then I realized it would basically be a recap of the entire episode. In a season that has, so far, had a high number of episodes I enjoy and consider to be good, I can honestly say that this was one I loved. Everything from Twilight’s adorkable panicked moments to the interactions between Celestia and Luna to even the story itself was in high form, and I cannot stress enough how happy I am to have waited until now to see it.
 
A fantastic moment well worth the wait, and one I am sure I will be talking about for some time to come.

I cringed at Twilight in “A Royal Problem”. That line, on the other hand, is a breath of fresh air to me.

You cringe at everything, don’t you?

This week is the episode I’ve been dreading. The one where Starlight messes things up with magic again. Sigh. Let’s get this over with.
 
This is the first time the map has called somepony by themselves and with no connection to the EoH. Isn’t Starlight special?
 
Luna looks so awkward standing at Celestia’s side when they are supposed to be equals. It’s been at least three years now in show time since Luna returned and she still doesn’t have her own throne? This kind of neglect is why they fought in the first place.
 
Luna must have gums of steel to take a big bite out of a pineapple, rind and all.
 
“Gee, thanks for believing in me, Twilight.”  
Shut the fuck up, Starlight. You’re lucky anyone trusts you after all the shit you did.
 
Twilight’s worship of Celestia was ok the first couple seasons. Celestia was her mentor and monarch. Her deference made sense. As time went on and Twilight has now been a Princess longer than she was a student, it’s become almost disturbing how blindly loyal Twilight is to Celestia.
 
There it is. The moment where Starlight loses her nerve and reacts like a superpowered spaz.
 
“You switched the actual Princess’s cutie marks?”  
“I thought we moved past this.”  
I thought so too. I thought we had multiple episodes about why altering cutie marks is a bad thing.
 
Wait. Stop. Luna said in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? that Celestia has no power in the dream realm. So Celestia being able to act in dreams is supposed to be a transference of Luna’s abilities via her cutie mark. But that doesn’t make sense unless dreamwalking is Luna’s talent and not raising the moon. Well, all the effects of removing the Mane Six’s cutie marks didn’t make sense in The Cutie Map either. Taking away Applejack’s cutie mark removed her strength and mannerisms, both of which she developed over her whole life? I can’t believe that everything a pony can do is tied to their cutie mark.
 
The Red Dwarf reference is gold.
 
Nicole Oliver did a great job voicing Daybreaker. We finally have a canon evil version of Celestia.
 
“Starlight made the right decision freaking out and swapping our cutie marks. Starlight was the only one who could help us. Starlight is wonderful and you should love her right now blah blah blah…”
 
This was the Celestia and Luna episode I and many others have been waiting nearly seven years for. It was not as bad as I had feared but I still feel let down. At least there was some good interaction between the sisters after all this time.
