Fanon Style Hippogriffs and Classical-G4 Style Hippogriffs

Considering hippogriffs are depicted with the front half of a griffon, and the front half of a griffon is typically all eagle (albeit with the wings and legs in the wrong place), in this case part eagle/part pony and part griffon/part pony are functionally identical.
 
Then consider that the hippogriffs from the movie, whatever their component parts are meant to be, are more visually similar to regular depictions of hippogriffs. And finally, that this is what a hippogriff is, according to MLP canon.
 
Even ignoring all of that, as I’ve said many times before, the classic and fan-created creatures are pretty visually distinct, and the ability to be able to search for one type as opposed to the other is something that I personally would appreciate, and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
 
I really don’t understand the resistance here. I get why people would be against the idea of removing the hippogriff tag from these characters altogether, but even the idea of adding subtags? These OCs are still going to be counted as hippogriffs on Derpibooru if that system is put in place. They’d still have the tag.

And yes, my problem was the intermingling of two incredibly distinct groups, with no way to distinguish on a tag basis. I actually like Cirrus style quartergriffs more than traditional hippogriffs in most cases, though rainbow feather is pretty cute.  
I dont dislike you guys, I dislike what seems to be an improper tagging given what that word means historically and mythologically. Anyways, I’ve given up that fight. I’m fine with 2 seperate subtags. you guys would still keep ‘hippogriff’ you’d just have an additional tag to differentiate variety, just like in the movie.

Which is it, then? According to Zeb you were asked to make this thread after you began tag-switching peoples’ art. I’ve seen evidence of you doing just that, and it appears that you were using a bot or some other third-party software in order to do it. So it seems to me that you just began mass-vandalising tags and only came to talk about it here when you were asked to.

Yes, I was asked to come here and start a thread after initially taking this upon myself without discussing it. You’ll find, if you look at the tag history all those changes were reverted. I came here, talked, got the go ahead, and did it with permission, though that appears to have been a miscommunication amongst staff.

Obviously we all realize this now, but that came out after I already changed the tags on a site personnel’s directive. So, I don’t know why we keep circling back to this.

It was a ‘go head’ to at least start with the change, as stated by someone wearing a site staff label. Users can not be expected to know politics behind the scenes.

Yes, Cheesy made a mistake by saying ‘do something’ before there was a consensus and Gyro probably went too far by doing all instead of a few.

Making new tags is never an ‘oshit better hurry’ thing. The only time you should rush with tagging is if you mistagged porn as ‘safe’.

Or when you accidentally alias two tags that have nothing to do with eachother and need to quickly re-tag the images with the proper tag before anyone notices.

Anywho. Let’s turn the discussion back around from whether or not the tag changes were wrong/miscommunication and go back to what people think about a sub-tag and its application.

Well my thoughts ought to be pretty clear by now, I’d be in favour of sub-tags, preferably one for each, though I suspect a few people would rather there only be one for the canon-style.
