I just… thought Muse was beyond this. This whole middle-of-the-road, electropop BS that has been taking over the rock world. Hell, there’s so much electronics in the album that I’m half convinced that Chris and Dom didn’t even play on the album, which is criminal since they are both amazing musicians. I bet they’re bored off their asses whenever they have to play songs from this album live. How can I describe Simulation Theory? It sounds like Muse took the worst elements of pop and the worst elements of modern rock and blended them together in an album. I’m pretty alone on this stance, but I dare say that rock’s big downfall has come about because of the genre’s recent heavy resistance to “pop” sensibilities, which include catchy melodies, simpler song structures, and big, killer hooks. But this album doesn’t have any of those, as I left the album not being able to remember any of the melodies or lyrics of the songs that were on it. Hell, on one of the songs, the beat basically drowned out Matt’s singing voice during the verses. Pretty bad…Don’t be a snark.
