I replied before I finished it. I tried editing it, but it seems that didn’t go through. Basically, they changed the names of the main characters, put a big middle finger in Raven Studio’s face, and killed what’s basically a strong independent Jan Ors and a bearded dude with an accent and no badass Force powers.
It’s like, “Haha! We killed everyone’s favorite Jedi! And there’s not a damn thing you can do about it!”
The Simpson’s predicted the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney, did you know that? What the episode, “Fat Man and Little Boy.”
deuteragonist is specifically not the protagonist. But yes, you are correct, the others do fit this term better than secondary characters. However Twilight still falls into the protagonist roll here.
Never heard the term “deuteragonist” they second in importance to the main protagonist but are not a secondary character as they are still main characters.
None of the main 6 are secondary characters.

I’m a subscriber to Harwick’s theory that starlight is getting all this attention and development because the mane 6 can’t have any serious changes or growth till the movie is released. Once the series can be set after the movie, The mane 6 will become the main focus again and things will go back to normal.

Yes, there can be. But by it’s literal definition a protagonist is at the center of the story, making the key decisions, and experiences the consequences of those decisions. Twilight was the center of the story, Twilight was the one making the key decisions. Yes the others had their arcs, but those weren’t part of the main story line.
I do, you seem to not understand there can be more then one protagonist.
And your wording made it seem like you where saying they didn’t have character arcs and growth without Twi.

You don’t seem to know what secondary characters are. Or story structure, and story arcs for that matter. Character’s don’t need to be the protagonist to have character arcs and growth.

Even last season, when Twilight didn’t have any solo focus episodes and only one where she co-starred with someone other than Starlight, she still played a significant role in an ensemble cast in several episodes. As leery as I am of Starlight becoming a main character, if not the main character, I don’t see any danger signs that she’s forcing anyone else out of the show. (I do like Starlight for the most part, but I hope she settles into a second-tier role, like the CMC, sometime soon.)
As for this season, if it weren’t for the fact that she’s STARLIGHT GLIMMER and the fandom’s so fixated on her, we could freely acknowledge she had supporting roles in “Celestial Advice” and “Rock Solid Friendship” and a co-starring role in “A Royal Problem” (and arguably “All Bottled Up”), instead of being the star of four out of eleven episodes (or, for some people, nearly all the episodes).
Sure……
The others had no focus or growth like she did…
Even set apart. from her…

No. Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Fluttershy were secondary characters. The main overall arch was always focused on Twilight and her growth. The main 6 came from them being the elements of harmony, of which Twilight was the key element, literally being the center and focus of whenever they elements were used.
Though Twilight’s star does shine the brightest, by design, even then, the notion that “everypony is the hero of their own story” ~ Mayor Mare c.2015, still persists. Much like Tina. :3

Eh, RD was more of a protagonist, in SoF episodes. Only recent seasons picked up and non-RD ponies got any progress.
She was never the sole protagonist, it was the “mane 6” for a reason, there where 6 protagonist, the main characters.
Now we get Starlight and it’s all about her replacing the one protagonist.

Twilight was the sole protagonist, She was literally in the role of the “chosen one.” The rest of the main 6 were supporting characters in her story of learning how to be a friend, and thus a princess. Twilight literally turned into an alicorn.
Actully we CAN say she hasn’t pushed Twilight out of the role of protagonist.
Given how Twi was never the sole protagonist of the show then her still being around as a protagonist, even if not as much, means he role as one of the protagonist is still there.
And given the number of time before Starlight showed up that I saw people complaining about Twi pushing the others out of the light, that makes the claim even funnier.
So we can’t have Twi with more spotlight or less spotlight it seems.

What I’m saying it’s not as good. Starlight is an inferior product. A lesser version of Twilight. You and anyone else are welcome to enjoy Starlight as much as you want. Good for you. But you can’t say that she’s doing something that Twilight didn’t already do, and that she hasn’t pushed Twilight out of the role of protagonist.
Again, you’re ignoring that Twilight has had two starring episodes this season, as well as the fact that the show still focuses on her friends, not Starlight’s. When Twilight’s relegated to minor, not starring or co-starring, roles, and the show is all about Starlight and her friends, then it can be said that Starlight’s replaced Twilight.
I think it says something that so many GlimGlam critics can’t be satisfied complaining that she’s become the main character but have to try to argue that she’s pushing other characters out of the show. What it says, I’m not quite sure yet.
Eh, I still say she would be a better choice of replacement for Twilight. Twilight was a know-it-all asshat who thought she was too good for friends in the start. Trixie is the same thing, just without being a know-it-all. But hey, agree to disagree.
Yes, as I said, less then a second-rate villain.
The thing with Trixie is that she wasn’t a villain, until she ended up with a corrupting ancient artifact, but rather a boisterous, obnoxious asshat that didn’t know how to friendship.
Starlight was a literal first-among-equals leader, and Twilight is now the plot device appearing in bit parts. So yes, Starlight is just the shitty, less interesting replacement for Twilight after Twilight was taken out of her original role in the show. Starlight doesn’t even have the group of friend to adventure around with. Unless they plan on replacing the rest of the main 6 and make up some new version of the Elements of Harmony. Which wouldn’t be surprising
